has anybody looked into blocking off the EGR completely for performance? i know that the v8 guys do it and that kits are actually made for that purpose. would it be too rough for our newer cars? would there be any advantage?

A heavily debated mod in CEG days past involved creating a small blocking plate that would sandwich in with the EGR gasket where it bolts to the UIM.

Blocking it off completely will cause a CEL, but reducing the passage to about a 1/4" hole seemed to provide a slight increase in throttle response for some who tried it. I tried it, liked it, and kept it.

This is a freebie if your handy with a pair of tin snips and a drill. all you need is a small piece of sheet metal. Use the EGR gasket as a template, just make the center hole smaller.

Explain the performance benefit to be gained by blocking off something that is always closed during acceleration.

It's not like the EGR is routed through the center of the manifolds like on the 5.0 Mustangs. (Which still needs to be shut off in the PCM anyway or you get a CEL)

The only advantage to some folks is they perceive better throttle response with it.
I did not notice any difference from the restrictor plate personally.

reason i ask is because my boy just got done doing it to his vette and i was just curious. i understand that with the check valve setup it is closed during full throttle but was curious of the advantage/disadvantage. like the 5.0s my boys vette has the bungs right in the middle of the manifold and i hadnt even looked that in depth at my EGR setup before i posted.
