Has anybody installed an aftermarket steering wheel in their Contour/Mystique? I really want to install one in my Mystique but I've been told its time consuming and difficult. Any feedback or parts lists for an install would be great. Thanks

Remove old steering wheel (be careful, gotta make sure airbag is disarmed) and use sparco or momo focus adapter and a sparco or momo steering wheel and install new wheel. I don't see anything real hard about that.

Ur the S**t thanks you put all the crap I've heard from parts stores and every other place to an end. Does it have to be grant or will any other aftermarket wheel work as long as they have a focus adapter.

Thanks for the help

Also do you have to permantly disarm the airbag like remove the fuses or just disconect the battery the install the new wheel and reattach the battery. Sorry about last reply my heads in the clouds read momo or sparco thought grant.

I've never done this, I'm going by what I've been told,,, previous post is definitely correct, the following info is just what i've heard::: I've heard you disconnect the battery for atleast 15 minutes and then you can remove the steering wheel and put new wheel on and hook it all back up. You will most likely get an ABS light in your instrument cluster after the install but you can remove that bulb or wait for it to burn out. If you have passengers that ride with you, I'd leave the other airbag in and the module, if not you can remove it all. The module is located under the center console near the firewall (under radio and ashtray area). If you don't have a properly installed racing harness I wouldn't remove the airbag. Unless you don't care about your own safety, it may also be illegal and be against your insurance, I'm not sure about these things. I have a harness and the only reason I don't wanna get a different steering wheel right now is because I like cruise control and don't know how to wire it up differently to work without the stock controls...... You may want to contact deanjoyce.com because he's put a different wheel in his stique and I'm sure he'll be glad to help you. There's been a few others, but can't remember who they are.

That's what Dean wrote to me about that:

"Sparco steering wheel install: Don't forget, if we do this, you'll be losing your airbag obviously lol. plus we'll need to modify the hub so that your signal will cancel after turning, and, we'll have to relocate your horn to a button on the dash since the hub is made for a focus and the electronic connections don't line up. We can do all this since we experimented with it on my car, but you may want to wait til next time since it's kinda pricey because of the time involved. if you want to pick out a steering wheel, either momo or sparco, check out www.ltbmotorsport.com and pick out a momo steering wheel, or check out www.splitting-imagez.com and check out the sparco's. let me know what ones you might want and i'll price them for u."

Didn't think about the turn signal,, you can always turn it off yourself if your cheap. Also you can either forget about the horn or wire it up, but that shouldn't be too hard to wire a button for.
