While swapping out the WP on the wife's 98 SE Duratec (70K miles) this week, I noticed the entire back side of the serpentine belt was coated with a fine rusty powder.

I didn't have time then to chase it down and see if an idler or whatever was throwing it out.

Anyone seen this before and point me to the likely culprit?

Tensioner pulley the only one to contact backside of belt, don't believe it's a concern item unless you are experiencing belt chirping. My belt has some rust on it, however I would not describe it as coated. Probably caused by flexing of spring that provides the tension.
