I for sure am not getting the full potential out of this 2.5v6 engine... when the car is in park and I rev the engine, the Tach only goes to 4,000rpm. And when I am driving on the freeway and I throw it into neutral it only revs to 4,000 rpm's. The redline on the tach starts at 6,000 and goes to 8,000rpm's. What is the deal with this? did ford put a rev limiter on my car?

There is a rev. limiter in park for sure, probably in neutral too. I have never personally seen this limiter work as I have no reason to sit there and rev beyond 4 k.
You like to sit in your drive way and just rev up for no reason?

OK, lets start over. When I slam on the gas with my lead foot, with the car in drive, the car only revs to 4,000... This v6 is well underpowered for the size of the engine. My old tour was a 4cylinder and had more power than this. Can anyone help me?

Possibly the IMRC box out of commission.

I called ford and they said there wasn't any cat recall for my car. How can I fix the cat on my own? And what is the IMRC?

I ran into this problem about a year ago. It was the Main Cat that wasn't clogged, but loose inside. The insulation that holds the ceramic honeycomb in place had disintegrated, thus causing the honeycomb to rattle around and tilt inside of the cat chamber. As a result...my car would barely go faster than 70!!! I bought a SHO y-pipe with cat and replaced the entire thing. This sounds more likely than the pre-cats being clogged. Look around on the classifieds....you can find a used SHO y-pipe for around $200 and it's very easy to install. Heck...while you're at it...you might as well gut the pre-cats too! After you do the y-pipe and pre-cats....you'll marvel at how fast your 'tour is now.....I promise!

Thanks for you advice. I got a SHOshop y-pipe for christmas. I will replace the stock y-pipe soon, but I am still going back to Ford and complain about my car not being covered under the cat recall. What I want to do with my old y-pipe is fix the flow on it and put it on my old 4cylinder tour. Can I clean the cat out myslelf weld the flow, and put it on my other tour? I will also check the IMRC.

ALL ATX's are limited to 4000 when in nuetral, its just dumb to rev it higher then that, and why the heck would you put it in N on the highway? If it doesn't rev past 4000 when your getting on it then that's a problem, but its working properly when in N to hold you to 4000
