i was wondering how could i tell the different between a rear main seal leak and an oil pan leak. my car has a oil leak now after my last oil change and im not sure if its the pan or the rear main seal. im wondering because the rear main seal was replaced like 3 or 4 months ago. and i put in my regular 6 quarts of mobile 5-30 with a new k&n 2010. a few days later i notice oil spots. i think its dripping around a quart a week. it seems to be dripping towards the center. i think ill just have to get teh oil pan gasket changed and hop that solves it. im not paying to have the tranny pulled again. im almost at 92,000 miles.

Go under, clean it real well, dry it, toss some talcum powder on it and drive for 5 minutes or so. If it is leaking about 1 quart a week, you should be able to see a line of oil form on the talcum powder after a few minutes.
