I am going to try to replace my CV half shaft. The AutoZone instructions says in addition to the big parts that I need, I also need some smaller ones:

1) a wheel hub retaining nut;
2) a new lower control arm to steering knuckle pinch bolt;
3) new retainer circlips for the CV-joints; and
4) a new cotter pin

How do I find the part numbers for small parts like this? All of the parts sites I have looked at have larger parts, but don't get into these small ones. I know Bill Jenkins has the search feature if you know the part number and you can find everything that way, but how do you find out the part number in order to start your search?

Thanks for your help...I've been posting a lot of questions lately and I really appreciate all the help.

Yea thats a tough one. I just bought a new CV boot for mine and with it came the new retainer circlips and the wheel retaining nut. So if you bought the parts from Auto Zone and that wasn't included I would take it back and buy the one through Ford. I got my CV boot from them for $32, which came with everything I described. Not sure why you need a cotter pin... the only cotter pin I saw was on the tie rod end, which you are not replacing. As far as the control arm to steering knuckle pinch bolt... you should be able to match your existing bolt with one at a hardware store with no problem.

My CV boot was for my 98 CSVT and it was the inner boot.
Ford P/N was F8RZ-3A331-C, list is 50.10, but I paid $33.07 because I called Steve at Tousley Ford in MN and bought it under the SVTperformance group account (Mention the SVTperformance account to Steve and you'll get the same price). They're phone number is 1-877-593-2526 (M-F 7:30am-6pm and Sat 7:30am-4pm).

Are you replacing the whole shaft or just the boot? If you are replacing the whole shaft no need for all of that junk. It comes with an axle nut and a new clip on the trans spline end. The rest of the stuff is unneccesary.

I am replacing the whole half shaft, but I bought a re-manufactured one. It looks like it will do the job, but I don't see a circlip included.

Has anyone else run into this problem? Maybe I should have bought a new one, but it was a great deal.

Maybe I'll go to the parts department of a dealership and see what I can do.

Thanks for your help.
