I installed some new speakers yesterday and I had the car idling and was outside listening to how loud the music was...anyways. As I was walking around the fuel door, I heard a slight gurgling noise. I leaned down to the fuel cap and it was def being emited from somewhere around there. The sound is kinda hard to explain...

Could it be the fuel pump? A lady I teach with had a wierd noise like that, two days later the fuel pump went.

Well...I heard it again today, happened when I turned the car on. Sound is a faint popping sound, definitely coming from the fuel door area. Hope this isn't too serious of a deal. Any ideas guys?

That gurgling sound is due to air leaking past a faulty checkvalve (located on the fuel pump in the pressurized fuel system.

The checkvalve is there to help maintain system pressure even after the car (and the pump) have been shut off.

The only likely negative side effect will be that the engine won't start on the first crank since the fuel pressure may not be adequate to support correct operation. The work-around is to cycle the ignition switch to RUN, wait two seconds, turn off, turn back to RUN, pause two seconds, then hit START. This allows two complete priming cycles and should fully pressurize the fuel charging/delivery system. Adjust manual priming cycles as needed...
