Because they are a fully adjustable shock. Far from the GR-2's. Apples to oranges.

I did the search (not enough) and mistakenly bought the KYB's. After a bit more reading, I sent the KYB's back to Tire Rack and bought the BAT spring/strut combo.

VERY happy with the BAT kit. Didn't make much sense to me to put in new struts and retain 118k mile stock springs.

Now if the fargin manufacturer of the front strut brace would get off their azz and make some.

Nice White Castle unload Stazi... (no pun intended)

Strut brace? Sparco or OMP. I doubt they are made any longer.

Sure beats 107,000 on stock susp, not to mention saving better than 1/2 the price of the BAT kit. In the end unfortunately, even though I love driving it, it's still just a contour and every one outside this forum and above the age of 22 (give or take,) pretty much looks at them as just another car with ground effects and 200 hp which in todays world, aint' all that special.

Troll?

Oh well.

I hope you didn't waste money on aftermarket springs.

IMO KYB makes a quality strut, but they didn't do their homework with this application. OEM SVT struts are probably more suitable, but then again who knows for sure?

BTW, I'm 39 and I don't give a damn what the ignorant masses think of my car. The anonymity is part of the fun.

Wasn't trying to imply that I agreed with the "masses" either, just simplifying that the car is what it is, a Contour, end of story. Trying to preach that somehow by putting on "subpar" ( not you specifically) struts would impact the cars manuverability in such a manner that once installed, the SVT would lose control, go into an auto-epileptic seizure and end up shiny side down? Geeze, how exactly do all of you drive? Food for thought... Was @ the ROUSH open house for abit today and amazingly enough, out of ALL of Jack's cars (personal and other) not ONE Contour SVT in sight! FGS, he had an Escort ZX3 there(tucked way back)? And no Tour SVT? Sad fact is the cars are plagued with problems galore, I've had my share like everyone else, pretty easy to cure however with a little automotive background. Although I'm doing a piss poor job of conveying how much I enjoy the car, I truly do! What else can you drive for so little purchase money and still get BTA performance and still maintain 24-26 MPG!? I though hard about the BAT kit, just couldn't convince myself that it was worth the money without going through the ENTIRE suspension if that's what it was truly about. For me, KYB fits the bill. BAT kit sounds like a great option, driven a few a perf. vehicles in Europe and agree that US suspensions are soft turds and the BAT kit gets you closer to the Euro std. But hey, what the masses want the masses get! I feel a little better knowing there are other 30 somethings driving around in what I consider a kids car, thanks for the upper!

Ahem, I am in the same age range and I enjoy my CSVT very much. It was almost sold when I got a new toy in the 05 Saab 9-2X, but I just couldn't do it. After I decided to keep it, I started to spend money on Bosal exhaust, rims, paid UIM/LIM cleaning, intake, got a full detailing job, Roush sway bar, and got BAT kit with Eibach spring yesterday. I know it's just a Contour, however, I still have fun and fondness on it and it really drives well.

I saw younger people driving Audis, BMWs, Infinitis, Lexuses, etc, passing me all the time. Intrigued? yes. Drop my beloved CSVT for one of those? I don't think so. It's not about affordability or even functionality. However, I have past the age that the car is the sole representation of ones status quo.

I told my 6 years old daughter that one day I will teach her how to drive stick in this car. She used to like that idea, but now she points to the Saab and says she want to learn in 'that new cute car'. Well, it will be my 2 years old boy then.

My point on the springs is that if you bought KYBs to save money, and then paired them with lowering springs, you're barking up the wrong tree, since you'll probably have to replace the struts a lot sooner. Thereby, saving nothing.

If you paired them with stock springs--oh well, so they may not perform as well as new OEM struts, but at least they'll "work." To each his own.
