if its 240X1 bridged at 4 ohm- you dont want to run it on a single channel at 4 ohm or you will only be getting 60 watts to it not enough. you could get a 8 ohm sub and bridge the channels and get 120 watts out of it perfect for that sub. it sounds funny and ghetto but it would be correct

do you still agree that i should bridge it at one channel and turn the gain down or get an 8 ohm sub and bridge the two channels? thanks for your input.

and with that in mind...how do you like this 8 ohm sub by kicker, the Kicker Comp C88 shown here...

You'd want a SVC 4 ohm sub connected to the amp. The amp would be bridged to be 240x1.

correct that if he wanted to use the full potential of the amp he needs a 4 ohm svc sub but he wants to use a mtx 4500 8" or kicker comp 8" both of which should not be ran with 240 watts rms and he doesnt need or want anything bigger for a free air sub mounted to the back deck

I'll throw my two pennies in and say a JL 8IB4 or Image Dynamics ID8v3 would be great. Those are my opinions.

thanks guys, just purchased the 5500, hoping to install shortly. Any ideas on where to mount the amplifier, it's about 12 by 12, and i think i may have trouble trying to make a shelf come down from the rear deck. My only other thought is on the floor.
