Hi

I wonder if anyone might be able to help me.

My car is a 1998 ST24 with the duratec 2.5l V6.

I have a ticking coming from the front left side of my engine (near pulleys) but can't pin point it.

The ticking gets faster as the revs get faster and it DOESN'T do it when the engine is cold.

It almost sounds like and old car with a tappet that needs adjusting.

I am going to do an oil and filter change tomorrow as the oil is very black so needs doing anyway but thought the old oil might be causing a problem with one of the hydraulic tappets, whats think?

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar fault and can advise me.

Regards

M9G

funny, I had the same problem last summer. I thought it was the timing chain. It's gone now, I hope it doesn't come back.

Hi

Is there any other way you can link me to that topic as I can't open the thread.

Thanks

Yes, dirty oil might cause the ticking too. We usually recommend 3 months/3k mile oil change when using conventional mineral oil.

It could also be a pin hole leak on the exhaust system gasket or manifold if it is a ticking sound which goes away with temperature change. But change the oil first.

Possible exhaust manifold leak - it will sound metallic sometimes.

Thanks guys

Oil change and exhaust inspection first on the list.

Will let you know the outcome.

Many thanks
