The wires should un-plug down by the carpet inside the console. Try this. Go to a wand car wash. Undue the in/out hoses for the heater core on the fire wall. Back flush the core with preasure from the wand. Don't go crazy on it. The nice thing is you can bend the wand to make it fit past all the goodies in your way! I've done this-it works.
Heater Core for sure, I had the same prob with a mustang 5.0 thermostat, water pump, radiator, the letters PCV has new meaning for me. finally came down to do the Heater Core, cold air was blowing like crazy. I was satisfied finally.

Instructions mean nothing when they don't tell U whut U need 2 kno..... this site(Auto Zone), my book say nothing bout the fact of tha OD button or wires when telling U 2 pry the shifter knob off!!! Do I need to replace the knob??
And why didn't someone say that I could do this @ tha carwash b4 I took the interior of my car out!!!lol And can I do the same wit tha Rad.???
Go for it. Check to see how fast the water is coming out the bottom of the rad. You can buy a rad/coolant flush product to help break up the calcium/impurities in the system. Use 50%coolant and 50% distilled waster on the refill. Did you do the head gasket test?
