I have a similar issue. If they are enemy combatants, then we need to hold them according to the Geneva Convention. If they are not enemy combatants, we need to follow our own rules and give them a fair and speedy trial.
If there is not enough evidence to take the matter to a trial, then there is not enough evidence to justify continued incarceration.

So when the US gets on its high horse and tells China to stop their human rights offences, China will respond you have your own offences in Guantanamo; so be quiet or we'll never change our floating currency and keep devaluing the dollar and well profitize and stop funding the US trade deficit.
The US gov't doesn't give two [censored] about Guantanamo. It's not rocket science to figure out where the terrorists are coming from or who are giving the orders. In Washington there's bigger issues to deal with and Guantanamo will be shut down since it's on the bottom of the totem pole.

President Woodrow Wilson urged the formation of the League of Nations after WWI. America was still very isolationist despite participating in WW1, so the LoN treaty was never ratified in the US. When WWII broke out, the LoN had basically become defunct and after WWII, America had pretty much learned that isolationism is not the answer and became a full participant in the newly formed UN.

the un is a joke and the human rights commission is worse.
guantanamo is doing just fine detaining terrorists. if you want to see what abuse really is then we can very easily show you, clearly demonstrating that what we are doing is anything but abusive. basically the hr commission is mad seeing as we will not step inline with their wishes and instead stand up and do what we think is right. btw, yes this is totally different than iran wanting nukes to blow up isreal. as far as i am concerned i say let isreal kick the crap out of iran when the un fails to solve the nuclear matter. also, yes this is different than kim jong il having nukes. he wants to look tough but doesn't want to die in the process. he knows using them would incur our severe wrath. iran on the other hand welcomes this.

Yeah, and the US stupid enough to believe any of that.  And again, there is no moral equivalency between China's human rights offenses and Guantanamo Bay.

The TERRORIST in Gitmo are living life better than they would if they were out free, the difference is now they aren't planning on killing Westerners. Those guys get better treatment, living conditions, and food than some servicemembers do IN THE STATES!

Wrong is wrong and it doesn't matter if you can make it worse. If somebody shoots somebody dead he shouldn't be left off the hook because his defense is "I could have skinned him alive instead".
There's no winners in nuclear warfare. Whatever 'severe wrath' you incur will incur the severe wrath of whatever other nations the missles are even close to pointing at.

Yes. The masses are getting more and more uneducated, getting news from sensationalist and bias sources, young people care more about Paris Hilton's clothes than current events, and everybody wants cheaper gas and cheaper living yet they don't want to see or hear or know of the dirty work that's being done to facilitate it, much less the consequences of such actions.

Why not jail the entire middle east ? Every single human being in that region wants the western civilization wiped off the face of the map. I dont' blame them.
Gitmo is using a bandaid when the patient has cancer. It makes you feel warm and fuzzy that something's being done so you can eat your dinner with your conscience in peace and sleep in your bed safe but the real problem is growing unchecked. You can build a billion Gitmo's and if you don't make steps towards solving the root causes of the problem, you're going to keep living in fear.
And WHAT about THOSE CAPS ! TERRORISTS !!!
