Heres the deal, some how my storage drive converted from NTFS to RAW.. It cant be changed back as far as I know unless I reformat (erase everything) and I cant get the info off the hard drive.. this hard drive is filled with all kinds of stuff that I would rather not delete. is there any way somebody is aware of that I can get the data off of this hard drive?

You need to get a hex editor and redo the MBR. It's only the first few bytes on the beginning of the drive.

will that work? if the data structures on the drive itself have actually changed, will just forcing the drive to think that its NTFS work?
In other words, if the data on the drive has rearranged itself in the move from one file format to the other, and the MBR is changed so that all of a sudden the drive thinks it is NTFS, the driver is going to start handling the drive like NTFS and just start reading random bytes that don't make any sense from here and there, because the drive actually isn't organized as NTFS.
I don't know jack about file systems, so it's very possible I'm missing something here.
now officially a troll, i guess. used to have a black 96 SE, until it broke down one too many times.
now I'm hunting for a motorycle.

I dont know how this happened. I just turned my computer on one day and tried to go into my D: (storage) hard drive. I got an error message saying drive D could not be accessed. If I go into the properties of the drive it says RAW format. I built this computer from the groud up but I've never into programing.

There's no way the HDD data really went from one format to another. It's probably something like the MBR. Make a DOS boot disk and run fdisk /mbr. It's an undocumented command that restores the MBR, and it's worked for me many times.

try doing this: If there is room for the drive to be split in half use Partition Magic 8, which can be found here: http://www.soft32.com/download_151.htmlessentially you are going to "split" the drive in half and format it as NTFS then you will copy your files to the newly created NTFS partition and store them somewhere (on the primary hard drive or on cds / dvds, wherever you have room) so you can reformat the drive back to its original size. After that you should be able to copy all of your files back to the drive with no problems. This seems to be a pretty common problem with dual hard drive computers, once a "master" is formatted and partitioned the "slave" tends to be recognized as a RAW format since it is no longer in the BIOS, windows gets confused basically and doesn't know whats going on with the extra drive. Hope this helps. Greg
