So like the title says I test drove a 1999 CSVT on the weekend and have a couple of questions about a couple of things I noticed.

The clutch seemed to grab higher in the peddle travel than the Mystique does. I remember back when I had my 'tour that it's clutch would grab higher when releasing the peddle that the 'stique would but I can't remember how high. The clutch peddle in the 'stique seems to travel about 50% of the way before you can feel the clutch grab, where this SVT seemed to travel about %80 of the distance before grabbing. I think this is normal but just want to check.

Also, going over the service records on the car, it had been in to have tie rod end(s) replaced 3 times. Are these common on SVT's or could it be some other problem. The car only has 75,000km on it (46,000 miles) so 3 times being replaced seems like a lot.

The rest of the car was in great shape, minus the dash warp which they're going to fix.

I can tell you that the clutch catching near the end is common. I know mine catches at about 90% with a very small grab zone, and everything's stock, so what your describing there is normal. As for the tie rods... I'll let some experts answer that one.

My '99 SE V6 grabs near the end of its travel too. That's often a sign of a worn clutch, but mine grabs very well and I've never noticed even the slightest amount of slippage. I think it's normal.

A good way to test it is to put it in 5th gear, rev the engine to 3000 rpm or so in neutral, and let out the clutch. It should stall instantly. If the revs gradually fall or it doesn't stall, the clutch is worn out.

the SVT's grab higher...it's due to a better clutch. Almost every non SVT contour I have driven grabs at the lower 30%.

Thanks guys.

Just got the word we've been approved for financing.
Hopefully be picking it up on Saturday. Can't wait.
Too bad I won't get to use it too long till it goes away for the winter.

yeah tie rods on our cars are notoriously WEAK, in bad roaded cities, plan on replacing once every 10-15k miles. . .booooo. . .
