real quick question. what types of oil are you all running in the v6 none svt for winter. brand and weight i guess what im asking is what do you like the best.

You should run 5W30 year around. If you live in a very cold area, (Canada, Alaska), you may want a synthetic during the winter. yeah, and when it gets really cold up here in the winters, we keep the ski-doo primed in case the car wont turn over!!! On really bad days, we all ski-doo to work, you should see the freeways...it's a blast . normally my car starts though as we keep the fire going all night in the igloo... honestly, it does get cold here in the winters (ottawa is the second coldest capital in the world according to some), but not much colder than many northern parts of the states. Jim is right, synthetic is better in the winters. It also hits 34+ (40+ with the humidex) degrees C regularly here in the summer so I run the synthetic during the summer too for all year protection.

What happened to engine block heaters? About $40. We used to plug it in at night in North Dakota.

please tell me where to install one, cause I put one on the bottom of the oil pan(dumb idea I know) cause that was the only place it would fit and it lasted about a week before the cord dislodged itsself. I think I went through too deep of snow cause they don't plow the roads in Minnesota, just salt and sand(and I take my car probally where no Contour has gone before). So where did you guys put or where are the factory ones on the cars?

Owned a Civic and Cavalier at that time. It was "stuck" to the "front and bottom" facing the radiator. And the wires were about 6 feet long, so it was tied to the radiator grille to prevent it from getting lost should it come off. No, it did not come off but it was used on plowed roads for the most part. The times when I had to plowed through snow, it was soft snow so that did not affect it.

All my cold weather Contour/Cougar customers swear by 0W-30. I run the same thing in my Cougar here in northern California. Love the improvement in performance and increase in gas mileage.. .. over standard oil fills.
