Damn, I'm feeling poor right now. Appearantly a puller/tentioner went and the timing belt skipped. The engine died and wouldn't start back up. I had to get a new belt and 3 new pulleys/tentioners (this doesn't make sense). The only good news was that I got 10% off cause my dad worked for Ford (retired).

If it's a Zetec, then I just did the same thing on one of my Contours. The lower idler pulley self-destructed and then chewed up the timing belt.. etc... etc...

It was a pretty easy fix, why didn't you try to do it yourself? If you're on the Formula SAE team at University of Guelph, then it should be a cake walk for you, right? You guys can build a serious race car...

Just be glad the Zetec is non-interference. If the timing belt went, some cars (like a Honda or Toyota) would instantly mean a new engine.

I thought it was interference! Maybe I was thinking of the Duratec...

I love non-interference engines... it makes bringing your engine to redline a lot less nerve racking.

on an interference engine, if the timing belt goes, the valves will contact the piston. On a non-interference engine, they will not. Hence the importance of changing the timing belt, especially on an interference engine.

Zetec has been debated alot as to if it is or isn't an interferance motor. I have heard cases to support it being an interference case for the record. Or should I say seen the aftermath.
