Its too big to fit in there. Making the trashcan heatshield is very easy actually, took me around 20 minutes with some heavyduty scissors to make it fit nicely, then sealed it off with pipe insulation.

Wow I might actually give that a try then, I'd like a good seal to keep any and all engine bay heat out of the intake. I'll print out the trash-can instructions after I order my RU-3530 & MAF adapter.

The seal i used was from sears hardware, the pipe insulation dark grey/black in color that you get in like 10ft lengths with a slit running down the side and is self adhesive, cost me like $2 bucks for it.

I talked to an O'Reilly manager and he said if I got the K&N universal filter & made my own heatshield, that I could use my current MAF and wouldn't need an adapter. Is he saying I can just use the current one by cutting it out of the stock box and then placing it back in the new heatshield?

Your car doesnt come with an adapter, the airbox is bolted to the maf with 4 bolts. The adapter adds on the round neck to the maf so that the filter can slide on and get clamped on. So you need a maf adapter pretty much.

Can I just go to my parts store and ask for a MAF Adapter then? Or does it vary depending on year/model?

I was thinking about the intake sensor that reads the oxygen content of the incoming air in the intake box. I see what part you're talking about now.

Thanks!

Well I ordered a K&N filter & MAF adapter; Got a fellow CEG'er who's gonna help me make the "trash-can" heatshield/airbox. It will be a fun time! Next up is the other fellow CEG'er who sells Mangaflow exhausts. Ah! I just got bit by the mod bug!
