Get 6-10! I'm not kidding. I used 7. Buy more and save the recipt. You can always return them. It's that bad man!

Edit:
I, too was adament in buying more cans. I originally had four cans. However, after the third can, I knew there was no way it was going to be enough. Fortunately, my dad was home, so I asked him to go out and get some more.

I am going to run injector cleaner through the gas tank but wondering if I should go ahead and do the cleaner into the intakes as well.

I have done the on the car IM cleaning through the vacuum ports. It does help some, but as everyone has said it doesn't really get in there and clean anything. It must just pull the surface stuff off. Better than nothing, and just takes a minute. A couple of dollars for a can of Berryman's B-12. It's certainly not going to hurt anything. It is recommended that you do it before changing your oil/ filter and spark plugs.

I'm planning on doing the tear down cleaning this summer, just don't have time right now.

Good luck !

I just wanted to make sure that (even though I am an avid off-the-car kinda guy) the intake method was not being seen as "useless"...

It is VERY helpful to do every oil change, or so. You just have to make sure you have a clean intake BEFORE doing this method, as this will help KEEP it clean. Just making sure that the on-the-car method gets its due.

Yes, good reminder Ray. The on-the-car intake cleaning is more of a maintence kind of thing that should be done every so often, once you have REALLY cleaned. Helps to keep it all clean.

I believe Ray recommends it be done at every oil change.

i do my stang at every oil change but i use seafoam instaed of berrymans(i know lots of people who have had better results with seafoam)although my stang doesn't seem to get as gunked up as a tour does, but i'd certainly reccomend the on the car method for a tour as well, and its only a couple bucks and only takes a few minutes

I recently got in there and cleaned out the UIM and LIM on my cougar.....was rather scary to see how bad it was...though I feel better it was like that for everybody heheh.

now my question is when you do this every oil change should you do it before the oil change? and how much of the can should you use?

I hardly think it needs to be done so often. If you do that often, it is best that you do it before the oil change because you will be leaving a lot of junk behind in the oil. Doing this ocasionally isn't much of a problem, but doing it all the time would be rough on the oil.

In my opinion, doing this every 10,000 to 15,000 miles is still agressive. You will certainly benefit from just cleaning the throttle body more often though.

No, I haven't felt the need. I do clean the throttle body frequently as well as use injector cleaner frequently (roughly every 6,000 to 10,000 miles), and I have ocassionally done the on the car cleaning. The throttle body cleaning seems to make the biggest difference.

The last time I did the chemical cleaning on the intake manifold, The cleaner did such a good job that it cleaned up the carbon at the y pipe joint to the point that I had a minor exhaust leak until the carbon built back up about a month later. I really doubt that there is much left behind in my intake.
