I read warmonger's post about how he only uses thicker oils. I'm in the same boat also. I'm just curious as to what oil weights other people use....

personally i do 10w30 or 10w40 in the summer... in the colder months, i'll run a 5w30 oil.... i won't touch 0w anything.....

my setup is just a straight 3L swap, oval port heads and intake, with a 75 shot

so what's everyone else using... and on what type of setup....

I use mobil 1 syn 0W40 in my STI

Why not get good thin oil when cold and nice thick protection once at operating temp. Seems like a no brainer.

I do switch to Mobil 1 0W30 in the winter though.

I like the '0' cold viscosity rating.

I offer PnP Heads for all durtec's details at PnPheads.com or jesse@pnpheads.com for details.

What are the advantages of running this weight oil as opposed to a 5w30? I noticed Mobil 1 lists it as a "European" car formula

Better thermal viscosity protection under operating temperatures. I drive quite HARD.

For "realistic" purposes a 0W40 is a 9.5 weight oil at 80 degrees. The only time it's quite "thin" acting is in cold weather and that's a good thing.

For ref - At 80 degrees during start up.

0W30 = 7 weight
5W20 = 9 weight
5W30 = 12 weight
10W30 = 17 weight
10W40 = 20 weight
20W50 = 32 weight
