It's typically the 3rd gear synchro's are going bye bye, if only happening in the one gear. If all gears, that would be signs of a clutch going bad or is worn.

Solutions? Hate to say it, tranny rebuild. Try running fully synthetic transmission fluid for now, see if that reduces the grind.

From my experience at TAG Motorsport, I would most definitely recommend NOT going there. The owners are very unprofessional, and there's lots of waiting, and you may feel you're getting swindled somehow.

For my Torsen LSD install, I went to a place called Driveline 2000. They're located in Scarborough, IIRC, around Midland and Ellesmere.

Anyway, the install price was very decent, and it was done on time. They seem to have quite a bit of experience with tranny stuff, and weren't phased at all.

Not sure if they'll pull the tranny for you... I just brought mine in after I pulled it out of the car.

Here is that shop's contact info:

Driveline 2000
1680 Midland Avenue,
Scarborough, ON

Canada
(416) 755-9075

P.S. I have no affiliation other than having my LSD installed cheaply, on-time, and as-promised.

I was thinking about contacting Terry as well. In fact, I tried to do so. Sent him emails and PM's at Fordcontour.org. No response to any of it.
Weird way to do business if you ask me.
Erik

PS If someone hears from him, please let me know.

No you don't have to add the LSD, but it's one of those items that, if you have the tranny out and in pieces, if the budget allows, it wouldn't hurt to get a LSD installed.

When I bought my car my 3rd gear was griding, and double clutching didn't help much,so I just did a 2-4 shift in it.

So I just got a used tranny from a wreckers for $450 and had it installed for 500. My clutch was good so it didn't need replacing.

Typically a rebuild will cost more than buying a used tranny, but then buying a used tranny, you can't count on how long it'll last. But that's the route I went and so far things have been good.

Yeah, when I did my tranny, that was a $950 job,and funding just couldn't find the money for the LSD and stage 1 clutch/flywheel I wanted. However, when it comes time to do those things,it's going to be $500 labour for me to have them done.

Cars sure aren't cheap to work on,lol.

Well I emailed Terry and I did get a responce.. unfortunately he is too busy to work on cars directly (aka you bring the car he does everything) so he only does trannys that are shipped to him.. unfortunately that would mean a three step process..(you take it out, ship it, he works on it, ships it back, you install it)

time to find a reputable tranny shop :P

or if any one has done the research already I'm interested to hear what ppl have to say
