They are horribly fragile. I went through about 5 tubes and just finally gave up on warranty.
With LED's...you will get that line of light unless you do what I did...you install them at an angle on your sideskirts to where they shoot their light to the opposite side of the car and it intersects the light from the opposing LED bulb

exactly....mine are pointed as far to the outside of the car as possible but it's hard to do it right with the side skirts and it being lowered.....I did the best I could and I think it turned out alright.
the purpose to point them out is to get the glow effect and most importantly to allow the light to travel a further distance thus allowing the different colors to bleed together giving it the "color changing" look vs. just changing colors at one time.
