I was wondering what kind of gas mileage the 4cyl and 6cyl engines get. I am looking for a coutour and that has been something I have been thinking about.

Who cares about the gas mileage when shopping for a Contour. Just get a V6 either way.

Get a V-6. I get 28 mpg, and have for 10 years. A 4-cyl will not be much better, and the car is lethargic with the smaller engine.

Well, you get 28....some people get around 20-24...but those are with mods.

With sedate driving, and no mods, you can get close to 30 mpg average. I got 20 mpg on the last tank because it was not sedate. I got a little over 10 mpg on a tank a while ago because of an autocross school. Funny how several hours at WOT above 4k rpm can suck down the gas.

Depends how and where you drive. I have been doing mostly highway miles w/my V6. I have been getting between 31.5 and 33.5 mpg. Most of the highway driving has been doing 65 mph

I can't wait to redo some stuff on my engine....clean intakes manifolds, new injectors, new fuel filter. Hopefully my gas milage will be that good then.

I have a 98 with the 2.5L and that stupid slush box, and I still get 19 in town and 28 crusing at 75-85mph on the road. I dont drive to easy on it either, so it could be better.
