When is the last time you've seen a 10 second fwd street car?
Seen a street legal one the other day. Of course they don't drive it on the street, but it is licensed, registered, insured, and legally could do it.

You cant drive on the street with drag tires on, And I have yet to see a FWD car hit anything below 12s without slicks. So I call BS.

Almost none of the pro dragsters in street legal are street legal.
Must have a cat to run street, many (if not must) do not. Have to have DOT approved headlights, many do not.
Don't be nieve.

Wouldn't call these guys "pros" exactly. They have stock headlights. Not sure if they have a cat or not. They probably do run on slicks.... I was jus sayinnn.

You have to remember a couple things, how far do you want to take this? If you have the cash, then yeah, anything is possible. You could go crazy fast in it; totally redesign the engine to the point where you run NitroMethane and you might get there.
The things you will have to look at would be a total rethinking and retooling of the block all the way down to balancing your crank and cams and reinforcing the block. You will want to make sure that when you run with so much HP that when all your cylinders fire, they don't block the block apart. Then there is the gas. Do you want this to be a daily driver street car or drag strip queen? Daily driver will require $$$ due to the gas you will consume. Think about it, you will have upgraded the fuel system, fuel injectors, fuel rail, fuel pump...etc etc. Now let's also look at your camshaft. You will probably be running a "wild" config and that will make your idle lope and it will be as the call "irratic" this will consume more gas. So you will have to accomidate for this...
Don't forget you will want your tranny to be bulletproof and Limited Slip plus you will have to replace your half-shafts (axles) and beef them up
Now if you want, make it a drag strip queen and it will be garage kept and stripped down and rebuilt at almost every track event to make sure that when you go down the track, you don't blow the thing up
Dude, go for it. Do it. But be careful, trying to make a car that goes that fast will require much care and you will be wrong for taking a minor short cut. Don't get it wrong, it could cost you your life. Not fun

If someone can make a 10 second K-car, someone can make a 10 second Contour.
The Zetec already flows as well as a DOHC 2.5L Dodge turbo motor. A FRPP head on a built Zetec block will do 160HP naturally aspirated. 30psi of boost will get you to 480HP. With rough calculations, a 2500lb car can run a 10.5sec 1/4mile with 450WHP.
Now all you need is $12k.

the Contour is not 2500lbs and that calculation is most definitely not for fwd cars...damn sure not for Contours.
We've got 13 second cars here with 12 second trap speeds. Not gonna happen...

There would be soo much more progress in the Zetec forum if it wasn't for all of the nay sayers. The calculation is for any car getting that power to the ground. FWD, RWD, AWD, doesn't matter. Just look at the K-car link. Yes, you would need a diff and something like a MSD Digital-7 to prevent wheel spin. It can be done.

I am not saying it would be easy hell if the zetec parts where interchangable then ingectors alone where gone run me 1500, but if you can make a ford pinto with a 2.3 liter with a big mainfold, like 1600 cfm high performance carb and highly oversized turbo run 10 seconds then why not a higher power, slightly less displacing fuel injected engine.
I am not saying it would be cheap or anything but hey it can be done and if you havne't seen a 10 second fwd car you arn't looking around cause they aree out there.
I am not going to be able to do this any way cause my work car decided to puke, another reason i don't like escorts. So looks my tour is moving to that spot, and i am going to start looking for a 3.8L T-bird or couger.
