Just a quick note, I just did a 360 in very light snow at slow speed with BFG Traction T/As. So far of the 5 sets of tires I've used on my SVT they have been the worst for any amount of snow. It's hard buying snow tires when you only drive in the snow a handful of times per year so I've looked for better all season tires and well the search goes on!!!!! By the way because of my sticky tires it looks like I'll be searching for a new right skirt (ripped it off during the 360 through the grass).

yeah, but in southern PA the roads are cleared off so fast that you're only in the snow maybe 12 times per year. You drive for 2 weeks on dry, then one morning of snow... This morning, actually

AFAIK, studded tires are not legal in PA anymore. Something about ripping up the roads even worse then they are currently. I know we have a set of studded snow tires for our 66 impala that haven't been mounted in ages... probably dry rotted like crazy by now.

I know a lot of people that run them. I think they are only legal during certain months. I'll do a little research on the matter...

continental contiextremes dont do so bad in the snow. i havent had any problems getting around with the white stuff on the ground, but then again im usually fairly cautious. never spun or gotten stuck either (knock on wood). in the rain the are great, and in the dry they are OK. could be better, but not horrible. if you auto-x any amount you are going to shred them. fairly cheap too. not a bad all around tire if you arent looking for maximum dry traction. treadwear seems to be pretty good as well.

The Sumitomo HTR+ tires I bought have been great this winter too. They are not perfect on dry (they "squirm") a little, but they have been a great all-around tire.

Yes that is a problem. Vancouver,B.C. is the same way. Everyone uses All season tire and when the snow comes the city goes to hell anyways........ How about a used set on steel rims?

I appreciate all the responses on tires, I even got stuck on a hill (almost, took some work though) and have tried to imagine my son trying to drive with these tires to school with some snow on the roads and it gives me the chills (no pun intended). The tire rack has a lot of info and I'm in the research mode right now. I was surprised about studded tires in PA, I'll have to look into that because I was almost positive they were banned when I was younger. It's possible they brought it back though due to no proof that they damaged the roads.
