I haven't found any single good site for credit help, although I have been looking occassionally. I ave found that most sites/articles/etc will actually recommend against consolidation. There are a number of lawsuits out there against many of the firms, namely AmeriDebt, for a number of infractions.

But if I find a good central source of info, I'll let you know.

I think it's Consumer Credit Counseling Services.

I believe that site is in my area, but may be a large organization with chapters in other states/cities.

ah - well not necessarily using a 'service' to do it, but what about some good reading on general practices?

Hmm.. http://creditmania.com/ was one I found through Google a while ago. They have some discussion forums. Let me look through my bookmarks when I get home. I might have another credit link or two.

Well... if he declared bankruptcy, does he have debt remaining that needs consolidation? I really don't believe in these consolidation services, as they are a big black mark when obtaining credit.

What he probably needs most right now is to establish credit. A store credit card and a major credit card are the best way to begin establishing credit, assuming he needs no major purchases at this time (car...). Responsible use of a credit card and a revolving charge will begin to build a positive credit history.

Having just filed bankrupcy myself ...

svtcarboy is right. Luckily for me, I have my $60k student loans that I'll begin repayment again right after the discharge, so that'll build credit again over time.
