need help, my car will not get to a very high rpm(ever).
i've check all feul,lines,filter,pump,shut-off switch, plugs, plug wires, cylinders, reset computer, exhaust, cat convertor, air flow sensor, also many other sensors. also my check engine light will not go off. i've went to my ford dealer, all they do is reset my computer. it works for like maybe 1 drive or so. took it to many mechanics, they don't know. also been to autozone and hooked up a computer. nothing seems to work. always changed oil, car never smoked, changed filters, everything. car is very well kept up. help needed.TTTTHHHHAAAANNNNKKKKSSSS

99 se 4cyl dont have rpm gauges but the car runs perfect @ maybe up to 3000rpm, should be about 7000rpm(limiter)

If it has an ATX. Then Mashing the gas pedal too the floor will only get you too about 5500-6000 RPM's before it shifts, then less and less in every gear. The ATX is designed to shift then because thats basically the end of the Zetec power band, THOUGH the Rev limiter is set too 6500 RPM's. If you are talking about Revving the engine while in park, it wont rev past 4000RPM's due to the rev limiter. It would help tremendiously if you picked up a cheap aftermarket Tachometer, and told us exactly where the engine gives up and doesnt rev past in the power band.

any check engine lights on? If so, I would go to you're local Advance Auto, or Autozone and have them scan the codes. Then get the codes and post them here, we can give a way better diagnosis from that. A very vague idea from me right now is that you're timing is off. How many miles are on the car? Origional Timing belt?

yes the check engine light is on. the car has around 78,000 miles on it.

Could be a in tank filter or pump. Does this behaviour change with fuel level? Mine was okay with a full tank but then it would get worse and worse as the tank got lower and lower. Finally it stalled out consistently with ~ 1/4 tank. It was a fuel pump filter inside the tank and yes on the 99 you gotta take the tank out, the nice little access port under the seat was fine before 99, but not after. I replaced the whole assembly because I never ever wanted to do that again.

i have taken the tank off and got it all checked out but i guess that just wasn't it!
