When about does a headgasket go on a four banger? My mechanic identified that mines been resurfaced. The last owner didn't have any problems. So i figure it went before the previous owner. Previous owner bought at 70K. I figure it went at about 60-70K. My mechanic tells me 2.0L were known for headgaskets. I've never heard of this. I know the 3.8L is. Anyways I was always wondering what a headgasket looks like? Anyone have any photos?

I'm talking about the 3.8's used in Taurus's, Thunderbirds, Mustangs, Windstars, etc.

I found some: searched Zetec Maintenance, head gasket, deep in the list.. Zetec Photos The gasket goes on around the pistons and the head sits on top.

I haven't heard of any problems.
I think they last a good long while on a properly cared for engine. Should go well over 150k miles in most cases.
