ok, here's the story:
i was headed home and i decided to take a "short cut" and get in some sand drifting. well, there were a couple spots were i got airborne and it was kind of a bumpy road. well i came around the last corner at a 45deg angle going maybe 35 and i got about 300 feet and my car stalled.

now the question is, did i make the engine too hot, or, as i think, do i have a dirt clogged fuel pump? keep in mind, i was pretty low on gas, but i still had plenty to go another 50 miles. thanks for your input and all that rot.

anyway...that statement makes me wonder if you knocked something loose. could've been the connection to the coil, could've been the alternator connection, etc.

we need more details. did it sputter when it stalled? what did it do when you tried to start it again?

maybe check the air filter...with all that sand and dust its possible it could be clogged

well..i couldn't hear the engine when it stalled because i had the radio up, so that i can't tell you. it definately wasn't the air filter because when i went back to get it about 30 minutes later, it started right up. when i tried to restart it, it would run for about 5secs and then shut off. after about 3 times of this it would just crank. could it have gotten so hot that it stalled? it wasn't steaming or anything though, and the guage was only in the A.

(yes that's hot, but considering conditions) this really has me confused.

Possibly the automatic fuel shutoff? I'm not sure if this automatically or manually resets. The unit could have mistaken your fun for an accident and cut fuel supply. If not that, I'm stumped!

y'know, i didn't think of that...derrr. that's probably what happened. i think it automatically resets on my car. not sure. thanks for the help guys.

No, you gotta manually push the button... Either that or I'm just too damn tired to understand what's going on in this thread. If anybody needs me, I'll running carfaxes.

you kicked the inertia switch, it shuts off the fuel pump, the button is on you left leg footwell it is red and labeled.

definately wasn't shut off.

"Replacing the IAC gasket:
(From IAC faq)
Over time, the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve becomes sticky due to buildup from the EGR and PCV systems. It can stick partially open such that idle quality is adversely affected, and engine RPM's will not drop below 1500. For a while, blipping the throttle will restore normal idle, but this only works for so long.

The fix is to remove the IAC valve by unbolting the two 8mm bolts that hold it on and disconnected the wiring plug. If you are careful enough, replacement of the gasket will not be necessary. The gasket costs less than US $1.00, so it is no tragedy if you destroy it. Once the valve is off, spray it out with some carb/intake cleaner and make sure any gunky residue is gone. Reattach, and you are done. It is a lot cheaper than a new IAC, which runs around US $70. Note: Ford claims the IAC cannot be cleaned, but this is not true in my experience." Ray.

I think my g/f has the same prob....She was sitting at a drive thru (i know not driving) and her car just died, she started it up and it died a few min later, did this 3 times and it finally ran normally. I was thinking it could be the pcv valve, egr, iac, or a dirty maf. her air and fuel filters are new. but i dont know where to start actuall, and shes afraid to drive it in case it dies on the high way or something.

Start with the easy ones, bottle of fuel stabilizer, clean the MAF, then change the air filter, fuel filter, ....
