i was just wondering what mileage everyone has on the zetec engine.....as of tonight i have 129,xxx.....how long are these motors good for when they are well maintained?
Posted By: SleeperZ Re: zetec mileage - 07/08/05 04:41 AM
105k and havent had to replace anyhing beyond fluids/plugs or things I have broken.
With a good maintenece schedule, they could easily pull over 200k.

117K miles and still running pretty nicely...

Maitenence:

AC Compressor Clutch pully and bearing assembly
Timing belt replacement at 102K miles
New Motorcraft spark plugs
Newer Ford Racing Wires
Ignition coil (Accell) Installed because other one took a crap
Throttle Position Sensor (replaced it because old one had a dead spot)

50236
ive had it since 34671 and i havent had to do any maitenence on the engine. fluids and regular care and shes runnin strong

Just turned over 130K (miles) on my way home this morning. Just off the top of my head:

-Regular Fluid Changes (Oil, Coolant, Brake, etc.)
-Front & Back Complete Brake Job
-Spark Plugs - 2x (Currently Autolite Double Plats)
-Wireset (Magnecor)
-Waterpump (PITA )
-Timing & Serpentine Belts
-Battery - 2x (Currently Diehard Gold)

Anything else wasn't really becuase of the engine. I'm not sure if the brakes can count either. For the most part, if you take care of the car it'll take care of you. Except for the first-edition Focuses, those things were owner-eaters.

136k.....16k with the blower!!!!
Posted By: BrApple_dup1 Re: zetec mileage - 07/08/05 04:33 PM
just hit 146k on my 95

had to change

radiator
timing belt 104k
plugs and wires
wheel bearings
struts
filters
think that is about it

oh yeah I hit redline just about daily when running through the gears

I've got somewhere around 146 k on my mystique. I also had about that same amount on my contour when my daughter wrecked it. Neither engine had any major repairs. I did a lot of other repairs to the cars, but not to the engine itself. Both engines are (were) running good, good power, good fuel efficiency, using no oil. I've had a lot of trouble with sensors, electronics, etc, but the basic block, rings, bearings, cams, etc have been bullet proof so far.

146,455.
Posted By: Hardrive Re: zetec mileage - 07/08/05 09:51 PM
157.255
Running strong till I tear it apart in september.
Posted By: DESIGN Re: zetec mileage - 07/09/05 12:04 AM
197,XXX

yep, I'd go out and check exactly but I'm just lazy.

Posted By: Hydramatic Re: zetec mileage - 07/09/05 06:38 AM
I've got 99,820 on my '97 Mystique, and other than a ton of sensors fouling up, nothing major has gone wrong with the engine. I am seriously about to replace that accursed idle speed control valve. Maybe even tommorrow if I can get some jackstands.
Posted By: PacificTourG Re: zetec mileage - 07/09/05 09:43 PM
58,XXX mi. on my '98 Tour.
In the last 4,000 miles I have replaced:

-Battery
-the serpentine belt and tensioners
-fuel pump
-waterpump
-thermostat w/gasket
I also have done a radiator flush and an oil change.

It's running grreat.

300 miles short of 200,000 and shes still running strong.
i've never had the engine or tranny rebuilt. every thing is original, including the clutch. the only thing ive replaced is the valve cover gasket. along with regular maintenace. she still beats the civics and the V6 mustangs

Just turned over 73K Miles a few weeks ago. Running great, did an oil change Saturday.
Things fixed/replaced since had it.
(off the top of my head)

  • MAF Sensor (didn't need it, long story)
  • ECT Sensor (didn't need it, long story)
  • Upper 02 Sensor (didn't need it, long story)
  • Vacuum leak (cause of long story on mentioned above)
  • Water pump/Timing belt
  • Switch for air/heater control
  • Left rear turn signal bulb
  • Air Filter

I think that's it.

90,600 ish just replaced the timing belt water pump and all the belts and stuff runs very good

surges a little when the ac is on i think it might have something to do with the o2 sensors i swear one of theese da im gonna rip them out or disconnect them wonder if the car would run
Posted By: 98Ford2L Re: zetec mileage - 07/12/05 10:16 PM
123xxx. Runs perfectly, except the AC doesn't work.
I've owned it since 117,xxx and I've done the timing belt, waterpump, plugs, airfilter, camshaft position sensor, and I'm going to do brakes sometime this fall.
Nothing really except normal maintenance, and since I've been able to do the maintenance myself so far it's been cheap.

The highest mileage one I had was a 95 with 290K miles. I bought it at the auction for parts. It still ran strong, but the tranny was slipping. I get a lot of them now with over 120K miles. It seems that as long as you don't over heat them they will last a while. From my experience, the Zetec is a much longer lasting engine than the Duratec. I've only had a couple of Zetecs with less than 100K on them with any major engine troubles, but I've had quite a few Duratecs with a mess of different terminal engine problems with less than 100K. Go figure!

i agree the zetecs seem to be a pretty "bullit proof" enginge. i dont know why nobody uses them for racing.

Hey I have an ATX, with 99,965 miles on it. It almost keeps up with my friends '96 P71 Crown Victoria, which has 130,XXX on it....

But then he pulls away after like 5 seconds...

But then he overshoots the turn and I glide on by....
