There's some kind of valve inside the metal tube.

Holy cow dude! I have never seen something like that! Why would anybody put a valve in the coolant line? How far away is it from the thermostat?

Be careful with the molded and glued together hose - if you do not want to replace it. My experience is that the glue does not hold very well and leaks.
