i would love to go, although until i heard a date (which of course would be hard to get so early) i would not be able to say for sure. if it were at the end of may again, that would be sweet. i would do my best to go then cause its right after school.

looks like the last one was a blast, and would like to attend one to meet all of the "big" names on the board. i think it would be pretty cool.

Jim & Scott were over at the house lastnight. We got to talking about SZ05 and we thought maybe doing it in June sometime would be a better idea. More college students are out of school, and better weather. And I think another week or two to get things prepared couldn't hurt! Keep the list going!

Btw, Im going to try and keep the cost to a minimum. I know people last year were a little hesitant about paying $80 and even if they didnt want to do the go-karting or banquet, they still had to pay the full amount. This year, the only thing that will be mandatory is the banquet. Everything else such as dyno, drag, t-shirt, go carts, etc will be optional. Id like to keep the cost around $20.

A different format being that it isn't MANDATORY to spend $80! I went to SZ04 for 1-1/2 days, but couldn't justify spending $80. I think $20 is change to a lot of people, and if you want other options(ie: t-shirt, go karts, dyno) you can pay for those separately. Since most people will be coming from out of town and a hotel is almost necessary, adding $80 on top of that seems to turn people away. I would like to see a large turnout of Enthusiasts, not just people that were willing to spend $300+ on a weekend. Come out to meet people, show off your car, check other's rides out, and have a good time. I thought that's what Spring Zing was all about, right?

From what I've seen so far, its a great spot seeing how close everything is to the freeway, good job to Jim, Scott and their Dad

Its never too early to start planning this and just think, we thought SZ was dead!

I would love to go, but due to the fact that i was not sure if Spring 05 was going to happen, i acepted an invitation to Cougar Fest 05.....Now im not saying completly no...because its all about money now....but if i can go, I will be there!!

Yep. Trying to follow Stazi doing 110 in downpours I'd have trouble staying upright walking in was not my idea of safe. There's a pic of me and Mike right after that and although you can't really see our faces, you can tell we were scared schitless.

Having all the events closer together is probably a good idea, and will make it easier on the out-of-towners.

Jim, Scott, Tom, and myself are going to do everything we can to keep this at the $20.00 mark. Anything after that is optional (ie: go-karts, dyno, track, etc...). As far as who all is invited, we'd like to see a huge turnout, so if there is an Sti coming, awesome! As far as the 100+mph chases, it won't be happening. I'm going to map out a nice cruise route with "checkpoints" that we can meet at if we get split up. Since the Hahn's and myself are from Ft Wayne, we figure we will both lead 1/2 of the group in the cruise. I'll also be calling today to find out about price and availability of hotels, banquet rooms, and track events.

Many members will be saving for that one trip alone.

I agree with Shaggy, the organizers need to eat the cost of everything, provide everything themselves and put us up in their house

We also need to get another speaker like we had at SZ04, that "drive through speech" was awesome, especially the part about the CSVT being the best sounding sedan at the time

sz 04 was my first year. I talked to many people there that said attendance was way down. I still had a blast. so it rained a little and we got lost once or twice but that is what makes it great. Getting to know people that love there cars the way I do makes me realize that I am not going crazy after all. I loved seeing all the cars, sure my car, the one and only mystique there, was not the nicest car and I didnt even put it in the show n shine but I saw many things there that I would like to do to my car. After seeing Stazi's turbo set up I want one bad. I learned alot and I would not have given it up for anything. And by the way I didnt mind the price at all. It could be $200 for all I care I have a year to save up. please dont let something as great as this go away. Our cars may be getting old but our love for them shouldnt. sounds kind of nuts I know but its true

well, i can tell you right now that im not sure if i can make it (as noted in my first post). this last summer, i had to take summer school so i knew i couldnt come. this summer, i am looking into internships and whether my car will be here or florida, or when im driving back (to go a "longer" way if you catch my drift), if im driving back, etc. it is obviously difficult to know what i will be doing in may of next year. sorry. i hope i can make it but by no means am i saying whether i can or cant now. just too far into the future. a trip that far from either of my homes is a big deal, so just getting there will be difficult. i have no problems, however, winning the longest drive award!

anytime after may 5th would be sweet(thats when im done with school). no later than the first week of june for me. i will be going back to florida for the summer, and SZ will be on the way if it is in that time frame. ive cleared this with my parents, so if its in that time frame i will most likely be there.

How would this conflict with the SHO Convention? Deconflict isn't a word so I can only assume you mean to "not conflict". Is the SHO Convention holding something in Fort Wayne around the same time? How many SHO's will be attending approximately? We actually were thinking about trying to get something going with the SHO guys also, but I haven't talked to Chuck about it. We were waiting to see how much interest we had in the CEG first off.

Just an update:

As of right now, were looking at the first weekend of June. This gives people enough time to finish up with school and hopefully the weather will be a bit warmer compared to previous years.

Show N Shine
Mark spoke with Jim Baileys Harley Davidson/Buell where we are thinking about having the Show N Shine. Jim seemed cool about the whole idea and didnt have a problem with us using the parking lot. Its a perfect location for a Show N shine since its literally right off the highway, so trying to find the place wont be a problem at all. Not to mention, the parking lot is huge and its a cool looking place to boot.

Also, Mark called up Dynotech which is where we would have our dyno day. Its about 2 miles down the road from Jim Baileys. Cost will be at the maximum $50 per person for 2 pulls which includes air/fuel readings. If we can get a large enough amount of people, we may just rent the place out for 8 hours instead so the price will go down.

Hotel Arrangements / Banquet / Door Prizes
After checking around for hotels, Comfort Inn Suites was the best price and was around $65-70 a night which is 3 miles from Jim Baileys. Also, they have 2 banquet halls in the hotel. One seats 50 people, and if needed they have another that seats 125 which can be opened up into the other banquet hall. So this seems to be the ideal place for the banquet and door prices/trophies. And I think we'll have some pretty good door prizes this year if everything goes as planned.

Mark, my brother Scott, and I were already tossing around some ideas for door prizes. And i guarantee we'll have a nicely catered meal and we WONT run out of food!

Drag Racing
Muncie Dragway is only located about an hour from Fort Wayne, and is a pretty decent track from what i hear from Mark. He ran a 14.4 there with his 3.0L SVT, so I think that speaks some volume about the track.

I think the cost is $15 to race and $5 to watch.

Autocross
Id still like to get an autocross event planned, but Im not sure who to contact or how to get one set up. Some of you autocross guru's probably have a better idea than i do, so anyone's help would be greatly appreciated!

As mentioned before, the cost were shooting for is only $20 to attend. That includes the banquet and a catered meal. Dyno, drag, autocross, etc are all optional!

I am definitely there.....I will wait to dyno until then.

Anyways, if you remember, towards the beginning of this thread I mentioned that the SHO convention is going on in Indiana, and typically they are in June/July. I have no idea about numbers, just like you have no idea what the turn is going to be next year. Hit up Don Mallision (sp?) the SHOClub president and most likely the event organizer.

How would this conflict with the SHO Convention? Deconflict isn't a word so I can only assume you mean to "not conflict". Is the SHO Convention holding something in Fort Wayne around the same time? How many SHO's will be attending approximately? We actually were thinking about trying to get something going with the SHO guys also, but I haven't talked to Chuck about it. We were waiting to see how much interest we had in the CEG first off.

For the auto-x you should contact your local SCCA chapter. They put on the last ones at SZ01 and 02. IIRC they had a regualr auto-x open to all and then we had specific contour only classes as well. Might double check with Worldtour about that for sure.

I have June 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th off. Gonna leave monday the 30th to give me sometime to get there. May leave tuesday. Might have a local ceger or two trailing with me. depends on if/when he gets back from iraq. If not, i might just go by myself. it will be an exciting trip. Never been that far east before. I will be super charged and ready to go by then!

You wouldn't believe how easy it is to get around Fort Wayne.. Jim/Scott & myself are going to split the group up. I'll most likely lead as I've lived here my entire life, and Jim & Scott will be half way back in the pack so if a stop light does break us up, they'll be able to lead everyone back to the pack.

Yea, i am prepaired, I have a driver who so far says he will come. I am stil hoping for another ceger to make the trip. But in order for us to make it in under 4 days we both need 2 drivers. i am sure not driving for 12 hours a day unless someone else is driving too. Thats 15 Gas fill up there and back. hopign i get an extra 30 on non stop highway. To bad my cruise control is broke for some odd reason. man thats like $400 in gas at $25 a tank. guess thats not to horrible. I spend $140 a month as it is lol. guess this trip will be much cheaper then i thought. I was gonna bring like 2k! lol.

haha our biggest meet i have been to was like 6 cars lol. My longest drive was with 4 cars, me and three others.

$20 is nice, but if it has to be more, don't let that limit the potential activities that we could have.

Haha, i did so many burn outs this week i only got 180 miles for my entire tank. I usually get 250-260.

Jeez ever since I put my smaller S/C pulley on I got 130 miles on half a tank....probably doesn't help I have 42# injectors!

Definitely DON'T bring up the Uniroyal Goodrich Plant!! The only SCCA I've ever done was in that lot and it was terrible. Cracks everywhere in the pavement with grass growing up through it. My tires got pretty mangled through that mess. They have also held them at Wayne High School I believe but from what I hear it isn't any better. I'll make some calls about locations.

License or Membership? IIRC, the Solo II (I think thats what it is, some AutoX junkie correct me if I am wrong) you don't need a license for, just a helmet...

Basically, I'd like to run at this auto-x; but I probably won't make a habit of it at home.

Ryan is correct. You don't need a license to participate, only a helmet. Like any SCCA event, they will do a brief inspection of your suspension to make sure it's safe to run on, and check your trunk and interior to make sure nothing will be flopping around to injure the driver or break.

Thinking the same thing.

I spoke with Todd again, and were still trying to locate an area to have this at. He said he was going to go over and check the Indiana Purdue University campus parking lot and see if it would accomodate something like this. He said it would be held on a Sunday, and the price could range from anywhere from free - $500, but I was under the impression it was going to be free. Im aware that most people would be leaving Sunday, so Todd said if we had to start at 9 am or so, we could do that. Ill keep everyone updated.

I'll probably swing by like last time, but not for the entire time. Last time I mostly BS'd with Buckshot since I was the "outcast Cougar". :P

The location for the Show N Shine has now been finalized. It will be held at Jim Bailey Harley Davidson and Buell which is extremely easy to find. Its visable from I-69 so its very convenient. The parking lot is perfect for a Show N shine since the building is somewhat automotive related not to mention, Jim Baileys faces Illinois Rd, which is a well traveled road. If any sort of event is going on there, the public is definetely going to see it.

Its being held on Saturday June 4th. What time of the day, hasn't been finalized yet. Awards will be rewarded for specific classes.

I take it Marsha finally emailed you Jim? If not then get her to put something in writing if possible. The owner, Jim Bailey has already made a verbal agreement with me stating that it was fine to use their lot, so hopefully this sets things in stone.

Please don't tell me that SZ-05 is the first weekend in JUNE ?!?!?! I haven't seen any dates set yet , until the post a couple up about the show-n-shine , what's up ?

I JUST got the pre-registration forms for the Fords at Carlisle show yesterday , and it's being held June 3rd -5th . This isn't just a local carshow , this is a MAJOR Ford show here on the east coast , that we've been working our butts off to make a big show and get-together for the Contour people in the surrounding states (and it's worked out very well) . We've pulled down about 30 people the last couple years . The show is SET IN STONE for the first weekend in June for many , many years . If SZ-05 is held that weekend , it will mess up 2 get-togethers

I'd REALLY love to make another Spring Zing (my 3rd) , but I'm afraid if it's held that weekend , you can count me (and many east coast people) out of SZ-05

. I've worked my can off (along with a couple other peeps) putting the "Carlisle meet" together each year & don't want it to take a step back . Check out the pics in my sig. from the last couple Carlisle meets , you'll see it's a huge Ford show that needs Contour attendence

We've had a regular turnout of 25-30+ Contours each of the past 3 years.

I too would have to pass on SZ05 and head to the All Ford Nationals instead.

IIRC , the first few were in late APRIL . Even with people still in school & whatnot , there were loads of people there . I forget the numbers , but I know SZ-01 was huge & SZ-02 was even larger . It wouldn't be much of a SPRING Zing in August

My passenger, side kick, won't be able to make it befor or after those dates. If i can get shotwells car up and running, we may drive out together, then I will come. Cause any dates okay in my book. I just need to tell them I don't need those days off and change them. So please set it in stone.

May 22nd I graduate, so I wouldn't be coming that weekend.

As of right now, it looks as if the date is going to be changed to May 19-22, which is the same time as SZ 04. The previous date i chose would have been perfect imo, but i didnt know about the other meet going on that week.

Well if we're doing predictions, I'll go ahead and say SZ08 will be a pathetic showing, IF it even happens.. This is CEG so it's more fact than prediction that people will come up with lame excuses on why they can't come.. Jim/Scott and myself thought it would only be fitting that we make SZ05 as CHEAP as possible, so "I can't afford it" isn't one of those excuses.. As for the dates changing, it is in the best interest of CEG and SZ05.. More people have said they can't come during the first weekend in June, than have said for May 19-22..

If my Contour is still running in 2008, I will throw a party. But anyways, I'm just saying Todd shouldn't be surprised that people are already starting to bail. This time two years ago, there were millions of people lining up for Spring Zing in Omaha. When it came time to put more than your mouth on it, EVERYONE except Rick bailed. You, as organizers, should expect something similar, though I know many people on that list will stick to their word.

I was planning on printing off the list of people that said they were going to come and checking them off at the event, but the changing of the dates skews the purpose of that idea.

Which is why I'm working with Jim to get another list started along with some set dates and events. I wish this were as easy as just throwing out some dates and hoping everything works itself out. But there are hotels, caterers, banquet halls, dyno shop, and other events that ALL have to coordinate with eachother. I'm definitely not surprised that people are already backing out as early as November, it's the CEG way. We just hope there are enough devoted CEGers that can take 1 weekend out of the year to come out and have a good time.

There is a few reasons I can't thank to the new dates. One I get paid the 15th and 30th, I make about 900 every two weeks, 800 of that goes to bills between the 15th and the 24th. I have no second driver, and I have a lot of money to pay my parents for backpay on rent. And I have yet to do the required transmission work on my car which will be another $1400 or so. If I don't get the transmission work I won't be coming. And now with the dates changed or being changed, this puts be on a hard spot of when I can come, if I will have the money and if I will have another person to drive with me. And the fact I would like to buy a indash dvd player with touch screen for this long ass trip which comes in at another $1000. Not sure I will be able to do it. I am already working 12-16hr days and getting overtime so I can make it. But its just not looking promising. So I hope that wasn't to lame of an excuse for you. I know some of us have reasons why we can't come, when we would really like to. I am still looking forward to meeting everyone in person and match some personalitys up to some faces. I have not given up on coming there but, I can no longer say 100% I will be there.

To those who are talking about people backing out. I'm currently a senior in high school and graduate 5/31/05. Well SZ is like right before the final exams and everything, if it was in June it would have been great because school would be done with. It is about priorties and sorry but getting my HS diploma and going to college next fall is way more important than going to SZ.

It's a good thing most employers take into consideration our work experience, as I probably won't have my degree for another 2 years.

As for reasons/excuses/whatever you want to call it, nobody has to justify themselves to me. A date was proposed for early June as we thought it would work out best for CEG as a whole. When we found out that we'd be losing ~25% of SZ05 attendance due to the Ford Nationals Meet, that had to be taken into consideration. When planning a large(or so we hope it will be) event like this, we realize that no matter what dates we choose, it won't coordinate with everyone's schedule, so we have to shuffle things around for the largest turnout.

I guess it all comes down to whether the dates that we choose workout, and how bad everyone wants to come.

Not to be an ass - but here's a novel idea.....if you set up a savings account that you cannopt acces through your ATM card (so you aren't tempted to tap into it) and set aside $50 a month, for SZ, you would have $300 by the time it rolled around, which I would think would be enough to cover it, provided you went into sharing a hotel rooms with other CEG'ers.

This tit-bitof info can work for anyone claiming poverty!

the way my car was eating gas, i was getting about 13mpg with the super charger. That means I would have to fill up about 15 times i think it was. can't remember how many miles it is out there. With gas prices now thats about $330 one way, nothing to eat, driving without stayin in any type of hotel on the three day trek. So I imagine with food were looking at 400-450. one way. then we still have motel for a few days which i can live with cheap or sharing no problem. and then dyno runs. event fee, food. Then another $450 back. So I am expecting to spend about $1000-1200 on this trip. I know you don't live far away but I do. I live across the country. I already have $500 in savings that I have to use and don't want to, to help fix my car its my car slush fund, and its being needed.

Explain to me how a S/Cer is going to effect gas mileage that adversely if you're not putting the pedal to the wood? My advice. Sell the SC if you can't afford a modded car. Doing things as extensive as F/I your going to have to maintain and care for you car MORE. Esepcially at the age that our cars are getting at.

My advice. Sell the SC if you can't afford a modded car. Doing things as extensive as F/I your going to have to maintain and care for you car MORE. Esepcially at the age that our cars are getting at.

nobody said I couldn't afford the maintence or the fi. I said the trip i probably couldn't afford. totally different. I will still try to make it as a local ceger is still planning on going, and pulling our cars with a trailer, and splitting gas. Which would work better for me. Not sure if they will or not though.
