Well guy I think I blew another differential !!!!
At first I thought I had a Bad CV joint, so I replaced it but I took the car for a test run and it started making a slamming noise in the tranny area, you could here the noise comming from both wheels!!!!

What are some of the common early signs of a bad diff???

It seems like there is alot of drive train lash!!!!

And the slamming or banging, thats not normal....

Whould it be common to show up at first while making turns and as it gets worse show up more often??

every car has a diff. If you didn't you wouldn't be able to go around a corner

The ATX just has a different one since it is a different trans.

We're Zetec owners, our cars don't go fast enough to make it around corners

make that 24hrs + 27 minutes. check the date

I broke my diff 2 weeks ago...its still in the shop (NOW THAT SUCKS) I feel for u tommy.

I feel for you...

It is hard to get answers over the weekend.
The board is at its slowest during the weekend...

If the differential gears are chipped, or stripped, you will first notice it when turning,
since these gears usually only spin when you are going around a turn.

If a piece of these gears gets caught between the ring and pinion gear, then you are going to feel it much more.
If the diff gears break, you will get to the point where the car won't move at all.

Unless you're wanting to completely kill off your trans, I'd suggest taking it to a shop and having them diagnose it for you. It does sound as if you've chipped or broken something in there. Sounds like you're in line for another trans or at least a rebuild.

If you're interested I've got a trans for sale from a 98.5 SVT. Excellent working condition when taken out. It has 36K miles on it. I put in a 2000 year upgraded trans with quiafe and bulldog box upgrades in mine so I've got this one as a spare.
