I have been searching for over 30 minutes now, with no luck, trying to find the post on how to adjust the shift cables. I have my car jacked up and the drivers wheel off. Is there something that you push at the end of the cables to adjust them? TIA

I finally found my notes that I saved from a post. I had printed them out and couldn't find them. Not sure why this didn't come up during my searches though, but here it is.

"...be sure the levers on the trans are both vertical (neutral)position (drivers wheel off) Press in the orange spring plastic buttons on the shift cable from the cable ends. The stick must be dead vertical in the shifter and dead center between 3rd & 4th. You may find you need to move the stick towards 3rd postion (this is being done with the orange 'locks' in and disengaged. Press the tab on the side of the cable ends to unlock the orange button. It must pop out to lock the cable...it has a spring under it. Depress the clutch and see if you 'feel' the 2,4th gear engage before the stick touches the rear of the ally housing. If you have adjusted too much you will lose travel on 1st/3rd etc..Only adjust the WHITE cable end...that covers front to rear movement of the stick. The black cable end is side to side in the neutral part of the 'gate'."

"The shifter cable end you want to adjust is white with an orange button on it. It is the one closest to you once you get the wheel off and look up in there. Pushing the orange button releases the cable from the end and when it pops back out it locks on the cable again."

"Yes shifter in neutral. Dead Center. Push the orange button in, which releases the cable. Then make sure the shifter is still in dead center, I pushed it slightly up towards 3 to give me more rear travel. Then release the orange button and you should be good to go. If it's still not good try again, if you went too far same thing, just try again, it's real easy. You don't nessarily have to be driving to feel if you did it right. Once you lock the the cable back on go row thru the gears and see if you can get to all of them before lowering the car."

There a very small tab that you must press to release the spring loaded orange button. So, when you are done adjusting and need to press the orange button back in, you must press it in all the way until it snaps past the little white tab. If the tab is broken, you are screwed and must order new ends. I will take pictures tonight of what I'm talking about.

Time go away from me last night and I never took pictures ... does this make sense, or should I take pictures?

take some pics. I was under the impression that you just push the Orange part into the white, that disconnects the cables, you move the shifter to where you want, then release and its locked in place.

I adjusted mine yesterday. Simplest thing ever. Had friend hold the shifter in correct position and I popped the orange part in, slid the cable and popped it back up. I can now get in every gear and no grindage!

Just register real quick and login. All it is is a video of him showing how to pop the orange part in and out and slide the cable.

Hey, don't fret. I had an early 1999 and mine did not depress to move the cables. My orange tabs had to be popped up about 1/4" to release the friction on the cable slides.

What I did was release the tabs this way with a small thin flat screwdriver, put the transmission in neutral by hand, then have a friend hold the shifter centered. Once it was centered I pushed in on the orange tabs until they clicked back into place and the alignment was perfect.

I don't know anything about pushing IN on the tabs to release them, only popping them out. So there must be two types out there.

That is a totally different style clip than was on my early 1999 SVT. For what its worth, my clips were square and orange inside the white shifter end.
