Hey guys,

I selling my 96 sport and buying a 98.5 CSVT this week! The clutch is toast and I need to get ahold of Terry Haines to upgrade my trans. Stazi said that it would be stupid to put in a new clutch and not upgrade my trans while it is apart... money is tight, but I think he is right and so I will go ahead with it. I searched the forum and I saw an email address, but now I don't know where I saw it. I don't even know if it was a recent email. Does he have a Username on CEG? Anyways, any info on Terry would be greatly appreciated... such as his location??? Thanks for your help.

Thats his email. Id make sure I got the turret upgrade, as well as the slick shift forks. He runs the tech forum over on fordcontour.org.

Does turret upgrade=shift tower upgrade?

Thanks for the info, that is the email I had found and lost! Where is Terry located though? Isn't it expensive to ship a trans? Also, I guess I will ask Terry about prices, but for those of you who have delt with Terry, feel free to post what you had Terry do to you trans and how much it cost. I don't know what to expect and I don't even know what should be upgraded since I am replacing me clutch anyways. I would like to go the cheapest safe route!

Thanks,

Jeff

i had my trans done by him. i shipped it to him. from los angeles to MI it was just under $100 via fed ex. his return shipping is included in his cost (he uses DHL, who cracked my bell housing! ) anywho, i had him install the quaife, slick shifter forks, shift tower and since i was doing the 3L he did the zetec final drive ratio too. iirc that was all i had done. i think it was around $1700 but i cant remember for sure. it sure as hell was badass though when it came back. he was a great guy to deal with and give you as much attention to you on the phone as you need.

Great! Thanks for the info. I am glad he is in Michigan... hopefully close to me so I can drop it off and get it back ASAP!

Dearborn, I believe. He charges a flat rate of $400 for the labor.

Even better! Dearborn is like 15 minutes away from my house... 8 minutes away once my new CSVT is on the road! ... $400 for the labor seems pretty reasonable to me.

Thanks!

Oops, I sent him an email asking him if I can drop off/pick up the engine because he is in Dearborn so close to me! I guess 2 hours isn't that bad either.

Ive been e-mail him about prices with for my trans. I think mines going to come out to 1870 with the torsen, slick shift, koated klog box. Labor is 450 as of 3 days ago.
For people who have had him rebuild their trans, do you think I should get the "Koated Klog Box"?
Posted By: muntus Re: Terry Haines - 05/01/06 10:10 PM
DHL better get here soon! Mine should have been here last friday and I'm getting impatient. I got the tower mod, slick shift, coatings, and Torsen. Mine cost about $100 more, but that's because I bought a Torsen on Ebay and payed $600 for it because I couldn't wait. I also had him install a Ford OEM slave cylinder. I didn't want to worry if the Spec one was going to work.

I would get everything done if you are paying a flat fee for labor.
Posted By: Nick98CSVT Re: Terry Haines - 05/01/06 11:51 PM
What is the part number for the OEM slave cylinder. Im going to replace that and a new clutch and maybe flywheel.Damn this is going to cost alot. So what is your total Muntus?
Posted By: muntus Re: Terry Haines - 05/02/06 12:00 AM
It was under 2 large shipped back to me.

Everyone seems to love his transmissions, but yeah it can cost a bundle! You can pick up a low mileage 3L for $500! But it costs $2000 for the trans you already have to be upgraded! That is obviously because the parts for it are so expensive. Terry's labor charge doesn't seem to bad, especially since he knows these trans better than almost anyone else!

Thanks for the correction! When I wrote that I thought about the guys who actually designed and built the MTX-75. Now they should know the trans!

I just got the BAT Euro trans and had Terry do the turret mod. I dont power shift, but wanted it for piece of mind. I will be installing a Torsen along with a flywheel/Stg. 1 combo. And plan on a mild 3L this winter. So I didnt think I needed anything else. The BAT deal is a great buy.

Less than $2k for a TH-built tranny is a steal. You can pay that and more for a "stock" unit that will have the same weaknesses as the one you're replacing.

I agree that under $2k is a steal.... I was just saying that anything transmission is usually expensive. I lightly used stock trans can run you around what TH's built trans cost... so yes it is a great deal... but also ... a lightly used 3L is around $500 for the whole engine!

Yes, but I think a properly built 3.0 will run you much higher. $500 will get you an unprepped, used long block with stock internals.

Still, I think you have a good point. We'd like to put it all in the engine, cause that's the sexy thing, but the tranny has to be able to take it. We want to make our house bigger, but before we do, we have to beef up the foundation.

500$ gets you the motor...you'll need another 500 just to get it running untuned. My 3L with tuning is like 1600.

Aight...well getting back on track...cough... What is the BAT euro trans and how much did it cost? I am guessing it is a mondeo tranny possibly...but for clarification reasons, I thought I would ask.

Check it out at www.batinc.net

Follow to Contour and then to the "specials" bubble on the side.

Ummm...I dunno if I missed something but I can't seem to find the 'special' link. It goes to the contour page and there are some links for other various sections, but nothing entitled 'special.'
Posted By: m!key Re: Terry Haines - 05/10/06 05:12 AM
go to page 46? i think it is. $895 is the price.

Oh ok...thanx...found it. Shoulda said click on the Contour parts catalog link...no biggy tho.
