My 1st 2nd and 3rd are grinding when shifting into gear in the last 20k miles but not the 4th and 5th ,wondering why they are not when the rest does.
Yes all the gears have synchronizers.

Which gears do you use the most and at the most rpm comparably when shifting?
wait, doesnt first gear not have a syncro... Thats why you arent supposed to shift down to 1st unless you are almost at a dead stop.... right?
Um, read Demon's post again... he's right.

is there anything that can be done to remind 1st gear that it has syncros? If I'm not at a near dead stop, I always have to raise the rpm's to get 1st to engage.

Remind? I think you could open up the tranny and say "you know you have a synchro, right?", but I'll bet it won't listen to ya.
