jesus.. just got woke up from sleeping due to the nasty thunderstorm.. watched from the windows as icecube-golf sized hail hit the lawn..

once it was over I went outside.. All 3 vehicles(including the 2CSVTs)have about 100+ hail dents (each !!!)

Get this.. the hail was so big and nasty that it actually broke all of our outside flood lamps and put a golf sized hole right thru the fiberglassed in mesh on my Evo hood.. I glanced thru the hole at my engine bay and attempted to see if the fiberglass was cracked but couldn't see good enough with my flashlight.. Also noticed that my washer nozzles were missing.. WTF!

Mark... you get it too again?

I want to cry... but at least each CSVT is covered and has a 100.00 comp deductible.. unfortunately the truck has liability only

wtf that blows!
You need a garage!

Wow, that sucks. At least they were covered, there's not much else you can do there. Sorry about the truck. I always get nervous when it hails, even though i've got full coverage on both cars as well.

Mark called me this morning and he got it too.. went to get an estimate and it was over 3,500 and if he submits the claim they will total his car.

Doesn't look good for me for sure then... time to look up the KBB values of each car I guess...

do you guys get hail often out there?
I think I've seen it maybe twice in my whole life.
Although recently a dealership got whomped by a hail storm out on the coast. People were gobbling up those reduced priced cars like mad!

I really feel for ya though. Those cars were practically new to you and your man. super frustrating to say the least.

there is an thunderstorm watch in effect again.. they are calling for LARGE hail now.

http://www.crh.noaa.gov/ifps/MapClick.php?CityName=Madison&state=WI&site=MKX

We never used to get hail like this.. what the hell is happening around here?

According to the State Farm agency there were so many claims filed today that they can't find enough adjustors to set up drive thru service.. I'm currently on a waiting list and have 2 claims filed.

It depends. Having lived just outside of metro Milwaukee most of my life I hardly ever saw hail. It seems like the areas outside of Milwaukee in all directions get hit with severe weather more often. The Madison area and surrounding counties seem to get tornadoes (and the other bad stuff) with relative frequency where Milwaukee has seen maybe two or three in my 30 years. Now that I'm living in farm country Im seeing more severe weather than I remember.

We're under a storm watch right now, as a matter of fact, and I can hear the thunder out the window.
Posted By: NVMYSVT Re: hail from hell! - 08/24/06 07:11 PM
its currently dark as night - pouring w/thunder, lightning and small hail here at work right now.
Posted By: todras_dup1 Re: hail from hell! - 08/24/06 08:20 PM
I had some hit me SHO last year and a little hit my SVT a few weeks ago. I'd say maybe 1 every 2-3 years normally. Pretty rare to see hail get big enough to do damage. I've seen some dime sized hail hit my cars and not do anything. If it gets nickle to quarter size watch out.
Posted By: ToasterOven Re: hail from hell! - 08/24/06 08:21 PM
a tornado watch just came on the radio a minute ago, but its not even raining outside yet. sky looks nasty though...

Posted By: Loco4G63 Re: hail from hell! - 08/24/06 11:56 PM
We didn't get hail....we got makeshift rivers in the street!
Posted By: MLuko Re: hail from hell! - 08/25/06 02:57 AM
wel.. yep.. my car isnt as worse as crispys but.. i still have enough damage to be replacing parts.. the hail that we saved around here was bigger than golf balls it was getting close to baseballs.. And I'M NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO TONIGHT..
Posted By: BigBEN_dup1 Re: hail from hell! - 08/25/06 04:33 AM
YUCK...i would cry if that happened to my car!

The joys of living in the midwest The weird thing is I don't think we got any hail at all here in fort. And I'm like 30 mins away from mark and crispy. If my truck got hit I'd lose it

yah Mark and I compared damage last night and unfortunately all 3 of our vehicles have about 4times the amount of damage that Marks has.. Once Mark left my man and I both looked at each other and said "god, I wish that I had Marks damage instead"..

apparently a large portion of my neighbors vehicles have been totalled out.. I'm prepared for the worst news but I'm prepared to see if we can buy them back or something.

its currently lighting and thundering again now.. I'm just so confused because we used to get weather like this when it was super warm cuz thats prime tornado weather..
Posted By: Thinkmoto Re: hail from hell! - 08/25/06 11:11 AM
Its susopsed to be like 85-88 today so i'm assuming the warm front is behind the storm. I agree the storms this year have been bad just not around my house I like nasty weather
Posted By: MLuko Re: hail from hell! - 08/25/06 12:12 PM
well my power went out for a second or 2.. reset my alarm clock.. good thing i was awake for it

My brothers contour (my old 99 SE) got it the worst at my house
Posted By: NVMYSVT Re: hail from hell! - 08/26/06 12:32 PM
Later this morning I have 2 State Farm Adjustors coming to my house to estimate the SVT's.. I'm going to ask a ton of questions about KKB vs Damage and buy back.

I'm assuming that I wont know the total of each damage til later in the mail or by phonecall but who knows... they are working 7 days a week now because of all the hail claims.

wish me luck... eek!

A few weekends ago when we went tubing down the river up north. At the very end of our trip it started to rain so we quickly packed everything up into the cars. No more than 5 minutes later it started to pour and then came quarter size or better hail! There was tons of people still in the river completely unprotected! The weird thing was, it was 80 degrees earlier in the day.
Posted By: NVMYSVT Re: hail from hell! - 08/27/06 12:56 AM
after 3 hours with the adjustor 1 of the SVT's is a total loss - our 2nd SVT's damage is 100.00 less the value of the car. He later asked for a complete mod replacement list in hopes that it will sway corporate in totalling it. We are waiting on a callback w/more information including us retaining the vehicle and its buy back price. We are pretty much in the air on that car though as I'm not too keen on owning a salvage titled vehicle and if the buy back is not super low I think we are going to just surrender it.

The first SVT's estimated blue book is twice the value of SVT #2 and has 3,100.00 worth of damage but needs to be re-evaluated as he forgot to do my trunklid which even has cracked paint on it from the hail.. so I'm thinking that it will be more like 3,500.00 damage. They are even giving me 450.00 to replace my fiberglass hood.

I'll have to talk to my shop more to figure out if this can benefit me as I was going to take the car in before for some bodywork.

argh.. regardless this sucks
Posted By: European Re: hail from hell! - 08/27/06 01:11 AM
Unfreaking believable wow. Geeze, for **** sakes that sucks the big one. Argh, that pisses me off your rage o meter must be sky-rocketing. Stupid Weather.
Posted By: NVMYSVT Re: hail from hell! - 08/28/06 05:02 PM
well this chapter is finally closed. They cut a check for my damage and declared the second SVT a total loss but we were allowed to buy it back for 645.00 and get the remainder via check.

Anyone have a trunklid for sale? We plan on replacing the hood and trunk on the second SVT ourselves and then get PDR (paintless dent repair) on the rest of the panels to get it back to how it was.

My SVT will get fixed completely... They even gave me money to replace my hood -- just the mesh has a hole in it.. Anyone want to do some bartering with me if I can locate another hood?

Heck yes!

I'm interested in the damaged one if you replace it.....provided that's what you're talking about.

Glad to hear they both weren't totaled and even happier to hear the buy-back was so cheep on the second...

My one spare trunk lid is spoken for by Mark...but i know Kyle has the old lid and spoiler off my SE....i think he's willing to sell.

yes, I need to purchase another trunklid ASAP... prefer something in Silver Frost of course.

If I can locate another hood I want to sell the one thats currently on the car.. it just needs new mesh - I already repaired the crack it had from shipping.

It'd be getting more than new mesh

I'll make a little cut here, do little sanding there...you know me...nothing major

It'll either be your evo hood or my OEM CF one that goes under the knife....
Posted By: NVMYSVT Re: hail from hell! - 08/28/06 06:49 PM
wanna barter the CF hood then? We'd probably throw some additional cash twards you as well if you still have the receipt stating how much you paid.

The finish is in rough shape.....unless you plan to put some cosmetic work into it and paint it body color like i had planned.

I can try and take some but I think the Silver paint will make it look less intense than it really is.

I'm taking my CSVT to the bodyshop tonight after work to have them look it over really well to see what other goodies I can get done on State Farm's dime seeing as how they already cut me a check. Hopefully the PDR will be cheaper than they estimated and I can get the whole car resprayed now.

I might meet up with M!key later tonight as well in Rockford so I can buy his Mondeo Morettes

Them Morettes are sexy! I want em!
Posted By: NVMYSVT Re: hail from hell! - 08/31/06 08:28 PM
no kidding... those whores are dead sexy... hopefully it wont cost an arm and a leg to get them to fit the car properly..

I believe they are taller than the Contour lights and I'm hoping that all that needs to be modified is the hood and the grill, unfortunately I dont think its that easy and M!key can't remember what the members name is that had a shop modify his car to install them

thats it!

just got back from cristy and the speed shop. what a great place. i wish i knew that they were there a long time ago.
Posted By: NVMYSVT Re: hail from hell! - 09/01/06 02:48 AM
well now you know all about them -- perhaps we can set up some sort of discounted Dyno Day or something with PDR work in bulk - that guy loves to do cash jobs.

car is set to go into the Shop on Sept 24th - The Morettes are a go (huge thanks Pole for the pic, I will print it out and hand it in with the lights)

I'm going to get the entire car sprayed.. they were attempting to talk me into going 2-tone but I'm not too excited about that idea..

Anyone have any suggestions on paint where the car would still be a shade of Silver or light grey? I wanted to go the Graphite Grey thats on the Coug now but it would require all the jambs to be painted, if I can pick something close to Silver Frost I can probably get away with making it all blend or appear to be the same color in the jambs.. I think there is an Infinity Silver which is slightly darker than Silver Frost which might look sorta nifty and then that way I dont have to get a new license plate

BTW -- M!key saw my damage in person.. his old trunklid is toast.
Posted By: m!key Re: hail from hell! - 09/01/06 03:01 AM
yeah, that lid is toast, just like my rear bumper.
