Planning for SZ07 in Michigan I promised I would check into pricing for WI and possibly IL folks to take the ferries across the lake. For anyone interested in doing this, here would be the pricing (all are round trip):

Lake Express:
sailing from Milwaukee to Muskegon:
$225

SS Badger:
sailing from Manitowoc to Ludington
$197

Muskegon is practically right on top of Grand Rapids, where Ludington will be a bit of a drive. The SS Badger doesn't start sailing until mid May, which could be problematic depending on what dates are decided. Anyway I'm just throwing it out there for consideration; we'll revisit this again next spring.

From Chicago to Grand Rapids......179 miles a little over 2 hours.
Posted By: hetfield_dup1 Re: Planning for SZ07 - 05/23/06 01:02 AM
That's what I figured; it will probably be quicker for the Chicago group to just drive, depending on construction and traffic, of course. *cough*parkinglot*cough*
Posted By: Pole120 Re: Planning for SZ07 - 05/23/06 01:10 AM
Just for the sake of conveniance and time\hassle savings.....i'm up for the ferry out of Milwaukee.....gas savings and no traffic to worry about, not to mention a 2hr travel time for us WI guys VS who-knows how long to go around da lake. We could leave at 6PM on SUN from MI and be home at 8-9.

No flying rubber on boats Hetfeild....

I think it would be awesome if we were "the group that crossed a fricken body of water to make it to SZ."

Posted By: Steeda. Re: Planning for SZ07 - 05/23/06 02:14 AM

Posted By: MLuko Re: Planning for SZ07 - 05/23/06 03:06 AM
4.. if i dont get a speeding ticket 2 weeks away from SZ
Posted By: xchang_dup1 Re: Planning for SZ07 - 05/23/06 03:28 AM
I see so much video potential here for the ferry pulling up and SVTs pulling out.
Posted By: todras_dup1 Re: Planning for SZ07 - 05/23/06 12:26 PM
I can probably get a deal for you guys if you take the Badger. I used to work on it. It dumps you off 1.5 hrs north of GR though but it's a nice scenic drive. Just tell them you have to drive your car on. They don't pack them too deep at that time of year. It's the slow season at that time since school isn't out and it's still cold on the lake. And yes there is enough room to drift a Miata a bit going around the divider wall around the bow. Hell I'll take an extra day off to meet you guys. I'll show you places for some nice car shots.
Posted By: m!key Re: Planning for SZ07 - 05/23/06 12:27 PM
see what you can do. thanks mang!
Posted By: todras_dup1 Re: Planning for SZ07 - 05/23/06 12:39 PM
Make sure you post this in the MN section too. It would be an even better thing for them.

and a bad a$$ pre98 don't forget! I WILL BE THERE! Those pics would be once in a life time shots for sure.
Posted By: Pole120 Re: Planning for SZ07 - 05/23/06 03:18 PM
My understanding is the Badger is a bit longer ride across as well. My parent's took it across a year or two back. A price break would be the deciding fctor for me. The Badger is an hour and a half drive from milwaukee, then an hour and a half to GR....i kinda like the idea of less driving, but for enough savings it could be worth it....

LMAO!! I am up for a ferry ride. The Badger would be closer to me, but I could just as easily drive to Milwaukee also. That would be awesome if we could pull a Contouravan off a carferry

Depending on where you are the LMC might be slower than the one from Mil. to Musk. but it's more fun and cheaper. It can fit A LOT more cars and it's the last coal burning ship on the great lakes.

Sure...

Maybe I'll drive around just to ride the ferry back... then I can be part of the boat party...

instead you get to be searched at the CA border, then put up with smelling the farmers flinging shiza onto their crops, while you creep on at barely 60 mph. Lucky you (us)!

You haven't had the pleasure of smelling Lake Michigan when the algae blooms start to die. Farm fields smell good compared to that.
