Double din? - 07/28/06 01:49 PM
anybody ever moulded or modified the dash to accept a double din unit? I might be able to get my hands on a Kenwood Excelon DDX-8017 for DIRT cheap and wanted to see what my options are..

I've seen one of those double din openings on ebay but you have to relocate the a/c I am pretty sure.
Post some pics of the final install I am curious as well.

Thats what I thought about doing, getting a pre-98 console and relocating the controls to that, then modifying the opening for the double din unit. but I dont know if I would haveto extend the vacume lines for the controls (PITA)

if you have a pre98 console you already have two din locations, the lower one is just a pocket unless you hae the tape and cd combo, you would just need to connect the two, but I could see why you would want to relocate the hvac controls and make the double din up top ...

Carpe, Ive wanted to do something like that, and I think your best bet would be to move he Hvac down below where the radio sits, and do a fiberglass bezel in that area.
It would be sweet to move the HVAC knobs to the tray under the ebrake
