anybody ever moulded or modified the dash to accept a double din unit? I might be able to get my hands on a Kenwood Excelon DDX-8017 for DIRT cheap and wanted to see what my options are..

yes please post some pictures, if so, do you need the pre98 console for this? Or can you do it using the post 98 console? Please a picture speaks a thousand works, if so you'll have done my life long dream (for this car anyways)

I've seen one of those double din openings on ebay but you have to relocate the a/c I am pretty sure.

Post some pics of the final install I am curious as well.

Thats what I thought about doing, getting a pre-98 console and relocating the controls to that, then modifying the opening for the double din unit. but I dont know if I would have to extend the vaccum lines for the controls (PITA)

if you have a pre98 console you already have two din locations, the lower one is just a pocket unless you hae the tape and cd combo, you would just need to connect the two, but I could see why you would want to relocate the hvac controls and make the double din up top ...

yeah, stick shift and a double din heat touch screen mounted in the console just wont mix well, its going up top or nothing.

Carpe, Ive wanted to do something like that, and I think your best bet would be to move he Hvac down below where the radio sits, and do a fiberglass bezel in that area.

It would be sweet to move the HVAC knobs to the tray under the ebrake

Yeah, thats what I was planning, that or getting the pre-98 center console and moving the HVAC into that.. I dont know. I'm perfectly happy with my CDA-9835.

My ultimate plans are to obtain a pre-98 (or Mondeo... if it fits) console and put a 7" touch screen in front of the shifter.

Eventually will build a carputer in there with it's outputs going to my Pioneer HU's AUX input. That way I keep a "normal" audio system in the car for when I don't wanna run the computer.

...Or I'll probly cheap out and buy an Ipod+connector and jack it into my CD player...
