fiberglass box project - CEG Archives

He are pics of the project I am working on currently. There will be 2 infinity 10" kappas in the boxes.

I am trying to make the boxes to 0.75 ft^3 as infinity recomends. I have measured out 0.75 ft ^3 of packing peanuts. Do you think this will work or is there a better way to get the volume of the box close?

I always filled mine with the correct volume of water..

Not sure how that would work.

I could make the box out of fiberglass then check with water. But if it is not the right volume then I would have to fix it or even start over.
I read that packing peanuts would allow me to make the correct size and contours that i want in a box while keeping the correct volume of packing peanuts underneath the top of the shell. Then I remove the peanuts after the top fiberglass layer hardens.

Its actually fairly simple, much easier than the other meathod I use.
You already have the back contoured area of your box made. If that area will hold the correct volume of water then you can set it on its back side on the ground and support it from the sides.. fill it with the correct volume of water. then take a marker and mark on the outside where the water level is... you then know where to cut and make the front of the box. you can even tilt the box and make the water sit at whatever angle you want your subs at.. You follow me?

Ok, I just explained the method to my madness but on a side note I have never used this meathod on a contour.. With the contours that you filled, the "bowl" shape is actually very shallow. And likely won't hold the water correctly.. forget what I said above.

you dont have to be too worried about it as long as you make it the correct size or larger than what it needs to be. You can always adjust the volume of a box that is too large by adding a solid piece of wood or other material inside the box that is the correct size to bring the internal volume back down to the .75cubic ft.
So just make it look good and you can adjust any imperfections in size from the inside.

flame retardant cotton or any other fiber fill will bring the air space down alot.

The poly fiber fill is to absorb the sound waves so that they donâ�?��?�t have a chance to bounce off the walls of the box and cause resonance.

I bet if you pack a ton of it into the box will could change your air space a lot but I donâ�?��?�t think that was the intended use.
