I'm still trying to decide between a lightweight deck mount setup and a hard hitting, great sounding sealed box setup. As of now I'm leaning toward a sealed setup and decided the sub that I would go with is the Alpine SWX-1042D. It handles 500-1000 W RMS, and 3000 Max and is a dual coil 4 ohm sub.

Now I'm trying to stay with a simple single amp setup and run 2 ohms. I'm not too up to date on who has the best selection so I've been using Crutchfield. Now I said I'm looking through their inventory, not buying so don't start with them being too high priced, I know that. I'm not filthy rich but I don't want something that will break down in a couple years either. How are these choices, if you have another to add feel free to:

Kenwood KAC-9102D
850 x 1 @ 2 ohms, 96 dB signal to noise, Class D

Sony XM-9001GTR

OR this one. A little cheaper.

Spend a little extra and get one that will last you forever. No matter what kind of setup you have.

I don't know how u guys feel about Kenwood amps but this one sounds and perfoms great. I've had it for about a month now and it pushes my 10"RF with ease.

it's been a couple of years now since i've done my system, but as far as the performance of those amps...you can probably get equivalent or better performance from one of the "other" brands of amps. For example, I have 2 soundstream amps for my stereo. One 4 channel for the doors, and one 2 channel (bridged) for my sub. Excellent performance for cheap...and they look purdy too.

soundstreams are good amps for the money. Kenmmods have good amps also. But im kinda partial to fosgate or kicker if you can find an older model in good shape like the kicker dx1200.1 or dx700.1 those are 2 badass amps. A friend of mine had 4 volfenhaugs(dual voice coiled 1000 wtts rms)running off one 700.1 and was pulling 140-150dbs constant then another guy had 2 of the same subs w/ 1200.1 and was pulling 150-160dbs in a minivan <----thats good

Alright, I have a new question for all of you. Since I have started audio systems in my vehicle, cheaper power was better. But now that I have just a lil bit more cash, is that still true? I can get a Profile amp that puts out like 1000W max for like $180 or I can get an Alpine that puts out pretty much the same for twice that amount of cash. Will the Alpine sound that much better, or are you just paying for the name?

All I can say is my wife is running the same Alpine amp that I bought used back in 1995. It's been used everyday since then (pizza delivery vehicles) and I haven't had a problem yet. That makes it worth it IMO, but they are a bit more expensive to start with.
