Hey Guys/Gals.

Long time...

Quick Question: I paid around $400 to replace my waterpump (and its belt) in my 99' Contour SE from Ford. Fair price or was I ripped off?

Thanks,
Derek

I would of gladly done it for $400 and changed your oil, rotated your tires and washed your car...

its like 30minutes of work with a coolant change..

the pump is like $75 and the belt is like $15..

safe to say you got Raped HARD..

thats ok I got gipped on Friday.. I paid $140 to fix a tire valve/rotate tires with Balancing at Ford..

I would of done that all myself but because it was cold and my tire was leaking constantly I had it done..

but man.. never again...

Well...not sure if he really got raped that hard:

- Diagnosis fee (if he didn't know what was going on) is $100
- Labour rates at dealership are averaging $100/hour
- Coolant flush/fill is about $80
- Parts at dealer invoice pricing = $100

So, he's about bang-on going to a dealer for repairs.

Well your right.. for dealer pricing (which is a ripp-off)
that pricing is about right..

but common $80 for a coolant change??!!? how much does coolant go for these days $4 at Crappy Tire??? and how much work is that.. you turn a plastic screw and coolant pours out.. you do a flush by pouring in water.. then refill..

$80!!! geez

You do also have to pay for the tech's time. I know I would want to be paid for my time on flushing coolant.

No thanks.. I will take the 5 minutes and do it myself...

I dont think he's debating if he'd do it himself or not. He's just stating why ford charges they way they do.

I could justify certain things.. but I personally wouldn't defend Ford.. after getting ripped off for years and then realizing how easy it is do stuff yourself.. I cannot justify $100 for a coolant change (10 mins of work) changing brake pads some say 5 mins of work.. Oil changes that cost $55 ..

and so on.. not to mention a rear licence plate light that I changed myself and ordered from Bill Jenkins .. Ford Canada wanted the lens for $100.. I got it from Bill for $8.. like WTF?!?!

no way I'm defending Ford Canada.. Bitter very Bitter
