Contour Enthusiasts Group Archives
Hi All
I was just wondering if we could put a post together and keep it as a FAQ to list all the Contour friendly garages and mechanics we have dealt with? I know the questions keep coming up, so instead of having to do a search everytime, we would have one place to look at for whatever info we are looking for.
For instance, I know that Second Time Around tires at Kenneday and the 401 looked after me real well when I bought my Falkens. They said then they would provide a small discount for list members too.
ANy thoughts?
Erik
Good plan. We can make a sticky of this post so that it is always on top.

Hi
So does anyone know any other mechanics in GTA who are willing and know how to work with contours? From my experience i know that not too many people know and want to deal with that engine.

Which engine and what is the problem. Many of us here can help you with problems or direct you accordingly.
My local garage, Super Tech Auto Repair (50 Industrial Rd., Richmond Hill), has been great with my '98 SVT. So far, they've done wheel bearings, brakes, complete intake rebuild, etc. They're very reasonable and honest. Lal and Sonny, 905-780-7551.
From my thread on injector cleaning...

Motorvac fuel system (injector) cleaning at:
Active Green and Ross $99.95 + taxes

I will report back on service and how car feels after being done.

Hi
I got V6 2.5L Duratec. I been having lots of problems with harness. It all started with a PCM(even Ford did not know that it was a computer). They were fidgiting with a car for a week and i think broke some stuff in the harness(maybe by mistake). After changing a PCM(most of the pins had corrosion on them because of water). Then, CEL was on until now. Problem is with sensors and not with units itself but the wires. and i had so many mechanics turn it down and not wanting to look for it. and the one who do, change way too much and it costs way too much i labour hours. I got one guy working it so i am maybe 75% done.
Has any one else had a problem with a harness?
Yes my 95 had a bad harness and I got it replaced by Ford under the recall. What year is your car?

Me too on my 96.
Car Quest in London. I have a hook up. Talk to me first and I'll steer you to the right person.
HI
got 1998 Contour. 1st problem was with PCM and then after replacing it, wiring for O2 sensors was all messed up. Sent last saturday trying to get it working and still one O2 sensor would not work. I had to trick a computer by switching wires from one that work to one that does not. However CEL came back on after worming the sensors. How do you find if there is a recall from it??? and are there any good electricians?
car was at dealership but they wanted to $2000 for harness and who knows how many labour hours....(i am not crazy to pay them so much)
its a big problem...
I'm sure you could jerry rig the wiring. Just need to find out where it goes dead along its run. Which bank and is it the upstream or downstream O2?
Hi Guys
here is what i posted in "troubleshooting"
I posted here before about CEL and O2. i was looking for diagrams(1998 Duratec V6 2.5L), after getting all of that i started fixing it.
In novemeber car was shutting off on wet conditions, so PCM was changed(pins were corroded) then 3 of 4 O2 sensors were not working because of problems in the harness, but car was running in wet weather or after car wash. so i fixed 2 sensor wires and one was left.
so here is fun part.
after car wash on friday car died on the road again!!! i was furious... but after 1hour or so things got dry and was drivable.
next day i was trying to solve the mystery:
CEL was always ON but it was only one O2 sensor, and now i got one more code:
P1451 - Evap system vent control valve fault
p0136 - HO2S12 CKT fault

so what do i do with P1451 and is it the code that can cause my car to stall after washing again????
P0136 - front bottom Bank1 Sensor 2. tried fixing it with all combinations. but its reading freezes at 0 or 1600mV. i knew it was wires so i reconnected wires to other sensors since all of them run in parallel(but nothing). Last thing i did was to trick a PCM(wires from sensor1 to sensor 2 in PCM to get a good reading at least, but it was no go)

Sorry if you had to read so much but i really want to get this done cause u cant imagine parania when car shuts off when u driving 50 or 100(i had both)

Thanks so much

I found a person in London who will machine cross drilled rotors for 15 bux a pop. Catch is, you have to take in your rotors yourself, he doesn't have the stuff to take the wheel/brakes off

Call Jim @ Battery Supply 519-433-2811

Any Part Source will turn rotors for $9.99ea. I'm not sure about cross drilled though.
Any well priced tire resellers in Ontario ?
A very good guy I deal with is in Scarborough. The shop is Alex Performance Exhaust (416-715-4015). This guy doesn't just do exhaust work, but does pretty much anything. He swapped my tranny for $500 when any other shop wanted $1400! However,I did get a bit of a discount through my Celica club,C7Performance,so if you use him, tell him Mike (that's me ) from C7 with the Contour referred you,and he should give you a discount.

He's just a small one bay garage and runs the shop by himself. He is a great guy,who is very honest and will bend over backwards for you. His shop is in a bit of a shady area,as some people who have parked their cars there overnight have been broken into, but Alex is such a good guy, that one guy had a $600 amp stolen from his Celica and Alex bought him a brand new amp for $600 out of his own pocket!

The shop is located on Sinnott Rd. not far from the Eglinton Square plaza.

I highly recommend his services. He is very knowledgeable and talented in what he does.

I can also recommend Summit Ford on Hwy 27 in Brampton. I have a friend who works as an apprentice mechanic there, and can get parts at cost,so if you need stuff, let me know and I can tell him and he'll order it.
I've got an awesome mechanic in the Mississauga area, Swaped the alt. out of my 99 V6 for 260. Really nice guy. Message me if you want the contact info.
Minute Muffler on St. Clair and Runnymede (GTA), very friendly guys, and will take cash and give good price.
The guys at Thruway Muffler at 300 Dundas St E. Whitby and the guys at Mr.D's Auto Service at 1211 Kingston Rd. Pickering are some goood duudes with some gooood prices.
Hi, guys, really great to find out this forum. Maybe someone can give me some advice on my 98 contour SE. OK, there is the story. I'm in Kitchener. I bought this contour SE two month ago, the odometer reading was 200k. I didn't drive on the highway until this Monday on a trip to Niagara Falls. After I got there, the auto transmission start to function very funny. It won't engage after the red light stop, I have to step on the accelerator hard, then suddenly it engaged and car thrust out. From gear 1 to gear 2, the change is harsh and the engine speed is not stable (up and down until the speed was brought up). After 60km/h, every thing works smooth. The problem has been the same since last trip.

The thing is there has been a transmission rebuilt on the first owner at about 100k. This car hasn't give me any rouble when I only drove on local. It seems the problem is from gear 1 to gear 2 when speed is under 40km/h.

Does it mean this auto transmssion is nearly dead? How can I deal with it? I don't want put another 2000 dollar into this car. Maybe a used transmission? or maybe it is only problem with the torque convertor? Oh, there is another thing, when the car idle at red light, the engine periodicly shaking, it seems the engine engaged for a while then lost, and then engaged. The shaking is from this change.

Thanks a lot guys.
