When we found out it was decided that SZ07 will be in Grand Rapids, the Wisconsin CEGers started discussing the possibility of crossing the lake to get there. Todd suggested clueing the MN CEGers in, but of course this is open to everyone here heading east. It won't be cheap and may not save much time, but you'll be able to avoid Chicago traffic as well as have a nice scenic trip with plenty of photo ops.

As I stated, this is just preliminary, and we won't finalize anything until we're much closer to next year's event.

I wonder how the Northern Route would compare...

I think a lot longer going across the UP. You sure don't want to break down up there.

I grew up in that territory, had a tire blow out on my SVT at 3100 miles when driving on US2 east of Watersmeet.

That mitt is bigger than it looks. I mapquested it, it is about 150 miles longer. I just HATE Chicago.

actually if I go, it would be eaiser and quicker for me to go accross the UP.

hey het, see if you can have a truck and an enclosed car trailer on the boat. someone around here might be wondering.
Posted By: Buckshot77_dup1 Re: SZ07 ferry across Lake Michigan - 05/26/06 11:09 PM
Max height is 8'6 and max width is 8'. I don't know that my trailer fits in those dimensions, but I'll check. It would be about $180-200 one way for me to go across. I'm all for cool, but that's equal to a lot of gas money on a trip that all ready will cost close to $400 just in fuel.

After our hell in trying to get by Chicago both ways, the city is rather on my excrement list right now. What sort of idiot decides to do road construction on everything at once?

Probably the same planners that run the road construction in the Twin Cities!

Of course, up here when they do road construction on a 2 lane highway, it will block off access to half the towns in north MN.

At least here in Minnesota, you have alternates. If they tear up 100, you can at least take 169 or 35W which isn't.
