Contour Enthusiasts Group Archives
Sorry, got a little excited there. We finally found a cool site for the remainder of the season. Probably will use it for some or most of next season too! (Unless TRP finally gets off their butts and builds their big lot). It is the Central Tech Truck Driver Training Center in Drumright, OK. It's about the same distance as driving to Stroud.

Unfortunately for me, since we've missed half the season already, they have to get in as many as they can, so they scheduled 2 events for the weekend before Thanksgiving, and another for the weekend after Thanksgiving. Unfortunate, because I can probably only make it to one. If I get REALLY lucky, I might make it to 2. But there's no way in HELL I could make it to all 3. Anywho... I haven't decided which one(s) I'm going to. If any of you OK peeps wanna come, (Rich, Cody) which one you can make it to would influence my decision. I'll tell you right now, the one after Turkeyday will be the hardest for me to make, since we'll be returning home on Saturday and I doubt I'll be in the mood for jumping back in a car.

Sunday, Nov. 27
I guess since nobody else is as excited about this, I'll just talk to myself.

I went ahead and registered for the 19th and 20th. Doubt I'll get to go to both, but there's a slim chance. If I can only go to one, I'm not sure which it would be at this point. Definitely won't make the 27th... I'll be recovering from Turkey Day.
WOOOO HOOOOOO! LETS AUTOX!
Wait what state is this in? Never mind...
Yeah, this is mainly directed at the 2-3 other Tulsa area guys. All the Texas folks can just ignore me. Unless you REALLY want to drive all this way for AutoX. I'm kinda surprised Static hasn't at least responded. I'll probably have to email Rich since he doesn't really come on here anymore. And I've never met PaleHorse... man Tulsa CEG is just DEAD!
Yeah I've started my fair share of "SCCEG is dead" threads here. The answer I got was that people here are "selective" about what they post...
Hey old dude. Whats up. Just saw your post. I'm down to come out. E-mail me when you get a chance.

wooch73@htmail.com. add the "o"

Ok, I'm going to the one on the 19th for sure. There's a very slim chance I'll go to the one on the 20th too. Also, our plans have changed and we're not going out of town for Thanksgiving, so there's a slim chance I'll make it to the one on the 27th. If any of you DO decide to make it out, the registration links in the first post of the thread contain directions to the site.
I would much rather go to the one on the 27th that date just works better for me all around as I am moving and everything right now....
Well the 19th was awesome! That's the most fun I've had at an autox. I'm running on used Kumho V710's on a spare set of SE wheels that I got from Duratec Dave. The whole setup cost around $58! Makes the car look funny cuz they're lower profile than my street tires, but man they stick like glue!

Here's a link to some pics.

I was actually almost competitive, too! I think I got 2nd in GS, but the results haven't been posted.

I didn't make it to the 20th, mostly cuz my wife would have killed me, but also cuz I've got this cold that I can't seem to shake. I'm not going to rule out the 27th, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.
Wow,what a big wheel gap. It's even worse than mine on my 16s.LOL

Do you think you could make it to the one on the 27th? By some pure miracle, I'm going to be able to go! WooHoo!
I will let rich know... we will be there.

Cool! Word of warning tho... if it's raining, it will be cancelled. The surface is a bit slick even when it's dry. If it's wet, it's like ice. There's a 20% chance of rain. It was much higher a couple of days ago. We'll probably be OK.
did rich call you yet. me and him are going to follow you out there.

Yep, we're all set. See you at the QuikTrip at the turnpike entrance. (assuming it's not raining! <fingers crossed>)
we shall meet you there. If anybody else in tulsa wants to go then just give me a call at 519-4531 and you are more then welcome to join us. we are meeting at QT @7:30am
Hey Rich and Cody! Where'd you guys go?
we stayed for awhile but they said 3 heats and then they were gonna move on to the next. well after the same cars went 5 and 6 times we decided that we werent gonna have enough time to stay. we left around 12:30 sorry man I didnt know it was gonna run so late. I was really wanting to see you run. Did you break into the 50's at all?

Run so late??? We were done by ~3:30. That's really early compared to some I've been to (like last week's). What time did you think we were gonna be done by?

I thought maybe you misunderstood and thought we were quitting after the guy in the S2000 crashed. That delayed us about 30 minutes or so while they got the car off and changed that section of the course to slow it down. And because they changed the course after most of the first heat was done, they made it a "non-points" event. Which didn't matter to me anyways.

The best I got was a 63.2 something
You know, I was really excited to see that there are other Contour owners in OK, and I was pumped about getting into AutoX next season, but as soon I read that someone actually crashed a car doing it... well, I can't afford to replace my Contour right now! I guess I'll have to bow out until I can afford this as a hobby.
I wouldn't let the fact that someone crashed keep you from coming out and giving it a try. Yes, as with any form of racing, there is a chance of crashes and mechanical breakdowns. As a matter of fact, that made me nervous too, as I would be screwed if something happened to my car. But I learned it's usually only the highly modified guys (or in this case, high powered stock sports car) that have those kind of issues.

If you're that concerned, you could be like one guy that comes out regularly. He has a brand new 350z that he calls a "show car", and he keeps it in mint condition. When he's making a run, and he gets going too fast, he would rather miss a cone and take a DNF than risk scuffing his paint by hitting a cone!

You should at least come out and watch. We're done for this year, but around Feb. or March we'll start back up again, probably at Drumright again. How far is Enid from Drumright? OKC may be closer to you, but I don't usually make it to those.
Drumright sucked... Stroud was the best. Even the one in tulsa was good. Drumright just isnt big enough and they cant change it up enough.
I agree that Stroud was the best. If it weren't for the weeds growing through the cracks, it would have been perfect. I wish we could still go there, but the owner of the site said NO. Eastland Mall was absolutely the worst. Lot was too small and had too many light poles and then there were the people working in Dillards who didn't want to move their cars. The one at Citiplex wasn't too bad, I wouldn't have minded going there again.

Having them in the city is a double-edged sword. Sure, it's convenient for the participants, but also easy for a bunch of "spectators" to show up. It takes more manpower to control the site and make sure people don't just wander onto the course. And then there's all the cool ricers who find it necessary to race up and down the entrance to the lot and cut donuts in the lot as we're packing up. They don't actually compete in the event, but they are a big factor in why we weren't allowed back!

Drumright wasn't ideal, but I wouldn't say it "sucked". I had a good time both the days I went. I just hope Central Tech doesn't get skiddish about the accident and decide not to let us come back. Cuz it's all we got until TRP builds its lot and I don't know if that's EVER gonna happen!
I find it ironic that both wrecks at Drumright were S2000s.

Hey Rich! Thanks for keeping my thread alive!!! (months after it should have died a natural death)

What other S2000 wrecked? I didn't see that one. BTW, at the event a week before, a WRX hit that same curb. No major damage, just messed up the alignment.

(I'll expect an answer about a month from now.)
3 days short of a month.

I believe it was a red S2k that wrecked at the previous auto-x at that location.

That yellow one sure got trashed.

Ahhh, yeah the red one hit the curb at the event I did not attend.

Well, if it makes you (Rich and Cody) happy, we won't be using that site again. Not because the owners said no, but because our SCCA Divisional Safety steward will not allow it. There's no way to make a completely safe course with that curb there. Back to the drawing board. The first event is late March. Maybe they'll have found a site by then.
Oh man do I have some pics for you guys I am uploading them right now. Just give me a sec to get them all in there

Hey Rog, was that your ride at the library on 97th & Memorial yesterday?

-R-
Not me. During the week, it sits in a parking lot downtown, unless I have to run an errand during lunch or something. And on that day, I didn't leave the building.

I've seen several White SE's that look like mine running around.
how hard can it be to see a white post 98 tour?
Not that hard.
