After reviewing your critiques and observing how other regional forums are run (including ones with equal and higher traffic than this one), I've noticed that a lot of us, myself included, have lost sight of what these forums are for. To review, here are the guidelines.
Posted By: Hightower GT Re: rules clarification - 09/17/05 01:50 PM
Does this mean that these regional forums are not for non-car banter, inside jokes, and general get-togethers?

Why would anyone want to use the regional sections for only "car talk" ?

What about regional sports teams?
What about local events?

CI is crowded with enough BS. How would it service everyone to have this kind of posting in CI?

By moving pretty much everything to CI, SCCEG will have lost its identity. Is that the goal here?

local stuff ok. random bs, no. The goal is to be more specific and consistent with the content.

I will do my best.

wow, I thought forums WERE for bs.. I mean no offense, but they dont even make the contour anymore, so its not like there are new things to talk about day after day.. how long can you keep beating the dead horse? South Central used to be a fun place to hang.. this is just sad.. but who am I? I dont see how you are supposed to keep a group of people, who have met and are more than just creepy cyber friends to such stringent guidelines... especially when they are kept to SCCEG...

"good lord...this is rediculous. that's all i have to say now.

this forum is for the discussion of topics relevant specifically to scceg.

so, basically, we should change the title of ""moderator"" to ""dictator"", since i am now to be told what is relevant discussion in our regional forum.

as long as no one gets out of hand and starts making derrogotory comments about other members, and there is no dicussion of street racing or other illegal activities; then what is the problem??? not trying to go over your head louis, just offering up some other aspects."
Posted By: louisw_dup1 Re: rules clarification - 09/19/05 05:59 AM
When you registered for the forums, you agreed to the rules. To review:
Quote:

"This is not a singles bar. This is a car forum, keep your matchmaking elsewhere."

"This is not a "free speech" site, so to speak, though you may say whatever you wish as long as it doesn't violate forum guidelines."

"Although you may think your personal life is interesting, please don't post the intimate details. This isn't a forum for outlining the saga of your life."

Frankly, this isn't your forum. It's isn't my forum. You are allowed to use this forum, provided you follow the rules. The mods don't write the rules, but the mods make sure the rules are followed. If you really want to chit-chat that badly, then a better idea would be to start a collection so you can administer your own forums and do however you please.

And I'm not a dictator.. more like a minion.
Posted By: Static Re: rules clarification - 09/19/05 06:18 AM
I think what he is saying is that if we are only allowed to post about contour related topics (IE. Meets and well that really it) then whats the point really. More then half of SCCEG dont even own contours anymore. For example, Myself, Kung Fu Troll, Zum, LilSVTless, Infuryum, and I am sure a couple more Texas members. When was the last time Mushu posted something contour related? (That was not a personal attack just using you as an example) I like to think I post normaly in SCCEG and if the only talk that is going to go on is about meets and contours then whats the point of me posting in here?. The cold hard truth to it is that SCCEG NEVER HAS MEETS. When we try to set them up to many people back out or just cant make it so we have just pretty much given up. To be honest with you if you are going to be a Nazi mod then go for it. I will always have CI to post in and thats where most of my post are now. Just dont be surprise when we go two or three or more days without any new post in SCCEG. Louis I agree that things got out of hand in the poll to unlock the UT but fliping out and going off the deep end doesnt really help anything. I personaly think the best thing you could have done was to just say "The post is locked thats finial, drop it." And anybody that cant seem to let it go gets two warnings, then its a 1 week banning for CEG as a whole. I myself am getting tired of ever freaking post in SCCEG saying well if the UT was open or if the UT would have never gotten locked. Well thats just my $0.02.... Hitler you have the floor!!!!

this is no longer about the ultimate topic. this has turned into something a little more i think. it seems to me that the idea of voting on this ""unlocking"" struck a nerve somewhere with you louis. did you think that because you recieved a couple pm's thanking you, that the rest of us would sit idly by? i don't really mind the fact that you denied unlocking the thread...that's fine...but the reasons you cited were incredibly short-sighted and make no sense in conjunction with the ""guidelines"". it makes me uneasy about the fact that you are our moderator. i feel now that you will lock a thread if it doesn't meet your approval or fit into your guidelines. i'm honestly not trying to attack your personal or moral agendas...but there's gotta be something more to this than: ""because i said so"".

? how many other ways can I explain it? are you purposely being obtuse for [censored] and giggles? I didn't make up these guidelines, they are explicit in the forum rules and user agreement. by registering, you agreed to the rules. you may believe it was incredibly short-sighted to lock it.. but that's not your decision to make.

you are correct in one regard: I will lock a thread if it doesn't meet my approval or my guidelines. that's what moderators do. but they're based on what's set forth in those rules, not my "personal or moral agendas."

As much as I was messing with you in earlier posts, Louis, I still have to wonder, and agree with Pale Horse...

Which rule (listed below) would the ultimate topic be abolished under...And if there is a rule in there that you should be locking it for, it certainly should have taken place LONG before 1000+ posts...

Originally posted by Contour.org Rules:

FORUM GUIDELINES AND USER AGREEMENT

RULES

1. This is not a porn or sex forum. Any topics that remotely relate will be deleted. Posting photos of barely clothed men and women is not permitted. There are those who could be fired from their job if a coworker/boss saw such photos onscreen. This can happen accidently and unintentionally if the reader is unsuspecting. All topics with such pictures will be deleted and the poster will be warned. Further abuses will be met harshly.

2. Street racing posts are not permitted. Street racing is illegal and stupid and contour.org does not condone it. All street racing topics posted will be deleted and the author warned. Repeated abuses will be met harshly.

3. Posts containing vulgar, profane, abusive, racist or hateful language or expressions, epithets or slurs, text, photographs or illustrations in poor taste, inflammatory attacks of a personal, racial or religious nature will be deleted and actions may be taken against the originator. Attempts to defeat the built-in censor will be met harshly.

4. This is not a singles bar. This is a car forum, keep your matchmaking elsewhere.

5. This is not a "free speech" site, so to speak, though you may say whatever you wish as long as it doesn't violate forum guidelines. The admins have final say on forum rules.

6. This is the internet -- don't be a wuss and get all bent out of shape if someone else doesn't agree with you. This is how flame wars start.

7. If you have a problem with someone on the forums, please do not air it publicly. Take it off line via email, PM.s (personal message) or IM.

8. Do not start or continue personal flaming. Posters initiating flaming will be met harshly, you have been warned.

9. "In B4 Da lock" posts are really lame and waste bandwidth. Do not consider making one. You won't like the consequences if you do.

10. Posting just to raise your post count (aka post whoring) will not be tolerated in any form. If an admin deems you are abusing your account in this manner, your post count will be zeroed and you will lose posting privileges for a period, and permanently if it is not the first time.

11. Putting pictures in your signature is not allowed. It causes too much clutter and can destroy the layout of the forums. Create a car profile in the registry and put a link to it in your signature.

12. For sale/wanted ads are not allowed in the forums. This is what the classifieds section is for. There is a link to the classifieds in the menu bar.

13. Posting pictures or videos of any tach/speedometer at highly illegal speeds is not allowed. That is way too dangerous and just encourages similar behavior. It does not matter if it was taken at a track or any other place where such speeds are "safe", there is no way to tell that it was not taken elsewhere. Similarly, posting about your high-speed escapades on public roads is forbidden.

14. Although you may think your personal life is interesting, please don't post the intimate details. This isn't a forum for outlining the saga of your life.

15. Registering more than one account is not allowed and is grounds for being banned from the site.

16. If a particular subject/link is not appropriate for viewing at work, DO NOT post it.

I've already acknowledged that yes, I should have locked it way before 1000+ posts. In fact I should have locked it when the nude pics were posted, on account of this one:

what I'm getting out of this: "it should have been locked earlier." ok, it's locked now. "I was lax and inconsistent about moderating" ok, I'll be follow the rules to a T.

so what's all the whining still about?

what happened to ""maxim rules""?? i thought you ok'd that with some other moderators. and further more the posters were made to post those pics in links to avoid such a violation of the forum guidelines...and none of them ended up being too riskee...ray's pics were obviously art oriented and any one elses pics were turned into linky's...even moobs or boobs were deleted...

i'm still not in agreement with you on this louis, and i guess i know where you stand on the auhority aspect of being a moderator...
i'll keep all of my posts in ci or 3l from now on unless you have anything to add to this discussion or i feel like posting that i'm taking a nap in sc...

oh, yeah, one more thought...why would it be a problem now to unlock this thread seeing as you are going to be much more of a force in enforcing guidelines? everyone knows that riskee pics are to be put into a link, so why not just unlock and let the good times roll louis??
lord forbid scceg get to know one another...i dont know about any one else, but i like to know who im speaking with and taking advice from...even if there is some useless banter and laughter in between.

Well, for one, after the first post, it doesn't do jack for our post counts!! And two, who posted about their personal life? I suppose if I say, HEY I WENT TO FRIDAY'S FOR LUNCH, and everybody is like, OOOOOOOHH, FRIDAY'S IS SO GOOD! Is that our intimate personal life? Or, maybe, the conversations that we had in there discussing art and other such things were intimate personal life discussions? COME ON!

There are a lot of us in the SCCEG that actually DO know each other and would like to be able to use this place as a simple place on the internet to hang out. Nothing against that in the rules!!!

Okay, you got it there, but that's NOT the reason you locked the topic and NOT the reason you kept it locked...At least according to your POLL regarding the unlock...(which, convienently, seems to have disappeared).

And all the "whining," as you call it, seems to be stemming from what Pale Horse summed up VERY NICELY! (copied below)

Yes, I baited you a little, and then apologized for the baiting, but it still doesn't change the fact that there are some questions as to the moderating in this forum...

And no, this isn't a PERSONAL thing, otherwise, I know how the PM'ing system works...As you can see, there are several people who feel the way I do!!

I noticed it right away! It can't be the REAL Pale Horse! It must be an imposter!!!

As for the "rules"... If you make it Contour related or local events only, then it will be even more dead than it is already! In looking at the fist page of SC posts, there is still posts from the middle of August! Other than the UT, not a lot of random crap gets posted. I personally hate going to CI because there IS so much random crap and I just don't have time for it all.

As for the UT, I think it should stay locked simply because it had lost it's soul and had ceased to be funny anymore.

Pale Horse, Woodencross, Static... CALM DOWN! You guys are pushing this way too far. Louis is a reasonable man and he and Eric are both great moderators. He is right; he does not make the rules Lance and Christy do. This site was made by them and is run the way they want. If you do not know Lance and Christy let me just say that they lean to the conservative side and prefer to keep things on topic and very family friendly. We have all pushed the limits for fun and it was tolerated and enjoyed by all. We still can, if you drop this and stop flying off the handle.

Louis has shown he has a sense of humor, if you look at Pale Horses recent posts you will see this Edited by louisw (09/19/05 03:04 AM) Well done. That was quite funny.

I will not tolerate you calling my friend a dictator or Hitler. Do it again and Ill ask Rara myself to ban you. Stop being Ass Clowns and start being the idiots I know and enjoy.

you need to calm down to. I was not ranting and I even said I agree with some of the stuff louis was doing. I dont see what the UT is such a big deal but I also dont see why we cant post about random things just so we can chit chat. 99% of the time I stand behind louis but only being able to post about cars and meets is kinda sucky. I do however feel it is because people [censored] about his lack of being a mod and now he is proving a point, which I also understand. I think everybody needs to calm down a bit. I tried to be very civil about my post. Calling him Hitler was a joke. Other then that I thought I was being very down to earth and wasnt asking for anything crazy.

I came up with the maxim rule as a middle ground, since scceg is small and I figured no one would mind (wrong). The admins never approved of it, if that's what you're asking. But as I've said previously, being liberal with the rules just ended up being a liability, so now it's on to something different.
