Its not working, and I can't decide to just remove the whole system (free) or pay some shop to fix it (probably $200 or so, maybe more?)

Seems like the free route would be the good logical choice, but with all this dang hot weather I'm sick of drippin sweat like a whore at church. I can't decide! realeklerlerkler!

A/C is overrated...

My A/C blows hot air

windows down my friend, windows down -- i never use my a/c.. .probably once this summer-- but at least it was cold

No a/c is good until it hits 75F outside. Have fun going on a long trip with no a/c when it hits 90F. I'm too old to be w/o it. A reman. compressor is about $160. I think I got the one replaced in bro's cougar for under $300.

HA!

Thank god for my sunroof. My A/C hasn't worked for a few years but luckily the sunroof does a pretty good job of pulling the heat out of the cabin...still hot, but more bearable.

might as well get some die and test the system out, bet the leak is at the accumulator/dryer ... iirc the part is under $100

get a vacuum pump from eastwood company so you can pump the system down at about $50 or ebay for cheaper and get the R-134A and oil at wal-mart and some cheap gages from autozone for about $50 and you can repair the system yourself

but fyi, I just had the dryer replaced at a dealer and it ran me near $600, new dryer was about $150, $100 in R-134A, etc

dealers are bad.

I'm thinking its worth it to at least have it tested to find the problem. Its bloody hot outside today, and I'm dreading the 25 minute drive home even if it is at 60mph, its still friggin hot

the hot makes ryan grumpy.

in this case being in a new area and never having gone to a shop before and wanting the A/C fixed 3 days before SZ I did what I had to do. The dealer I went to was very professional and overall it was a nice experience

Ryan get the die and test it. I have an accumulator and a compressor. I pulled mine out.

Ugh, looking like compressor. So its $300+ or remove it..... dang it all....Maybe I should just remove it.

EDIT: oh shoot, windows could get foggy in the winter without it right?

nah... they made cars without a/c not too long ago, and they were fine. it won't defrost as fast as it would with a/c, but it will still work fine.

I've been trying to go the whole summer without fixing my A/C

It sucks.

That doesn't seem like a bad price. Dude you have no car payments.
Posted By: rkneeshaw Re: A/C - 07/20/06 06:13 PM
hehe, ya I think I'm getting used to it! Its just a lot of money for something I might use like twice/year. Plus weight savings, more room in the engine bay, etc
Posted By: todras_dup1 Re: A/C - 07/20/06 06:22 PM
Bah. 30 lbs. Big whoop. I bet you use it more than twice a year.

I removed a perfectly functional A/C system from my 04 WRX if it makes you feel any better about removing yours.

I dont know why this is such a tough decision, I feel like a woman.

Shop wants $152 to swap out the compressor for me. Reman'd compressors on ebay for $116.... hmmmmm

The engine bay is a very welcoming place once the A/C is removed.
