*** NEW UPDATE *** Due to a rainout , the meet will be held AUGUST 7th !!

I just went to a local Subaru meet with my brother yesterday & I decided , it's time for another local CEG meet .

I'm thinking mid-July (10,11,17 or 18) , French Creek State Park , picnic , frisbee golf and ???

French Creek is a great place to meet with lots of picnic tables , grills and tone of parking & such . A great place to hang out & chill & just meet up .

We're doin' it this time !

Lemme hear what you're thinking .

I am somewhat new to the forum but if i am not doing anything that day or working i might drop by its a 30-40 min drive for me. i used to go walking there with my parents along time ago lets see if i still know how to get there.

Looking forward to getting to know you all

I'll try to make it, but not sure if I'll have wheels by then. I don't like absconding with the gf's Exploder for long bits of time. I definitely want to hang out with my 'Contour friends' again. Maybe someone local can grab me on the way out or something ...

French Creek State Park is located off of PA 345, south of Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, and north of PA 23. The park is in Berks and Chester Counties.

As long as it is not the 7-11 I can make it after work. I work till one, so say 2:30 for me to get there.
Posted By: Korfu Re: Local meet mid-July - 06/27/04 05:27 AM
OK if i can get some more details like where we meeting what we doing, the times and places to sleep me and my friend are in. Hes not a CEG dude but he over heard me say frisbee golf and sinces hes unemployeed he insisted on coming
Posted By: Buddy Palumbo Re: Local meet mid-July - 06/27/04 03:06 PM
I was thinking about meeting at the park at about noon or maybe one-o'clock . I'm sure we'll be there for hours afterwards , so I'm sure you'll have time to get here , Dweezel .

I can have directions to the meeting place within the park a bit closer to meet time . I need to go down there & refresh my memory . I don't exactly live close to the park , so it might take me a bit of effort to get the info , but it'll be here . I had maps & scorecards & stuff like that , but since I moved , they've gone missing .

What about the date ??
My wife has off the weekend of the 10th & 11th , so that is her pick , but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen the 17th or 18th either . It doesn't matter to me either way , I'm off every weekend .
LUCA (Christine) & her hubby can make it on either the 17th or 18th , so that's her pick so far .
Dweezel says he can't make it on the 11th .
Monstour is up for the 17th or 18th also , I believe .

Who else has a preference ?? Let's hash this out .

What about a saturday vs. sunday preference ??
Posted By: Korfu Re: Local meet mid-July - 06/27/04 05:12 PM
My sisters wedding party thing-a-ma-bob is the tenth so there is no way i would be able to make it on the tenth and ive already taken the 17th and 18th off of work so im game for those days.
Posted By: Monstour Re: Local meet mid-July - 06/28/04 12:46 AM
The 17th and 18th are the dates for me because I have to work until 1pm on the 10th and 11th

Posted By: The Digital Slacker Re: Local meet mid-July - 06/30/04 05:06 PM
I will try to make the early date... but the later one will work better for me. I got a friend from the burg comming up the weekend of the 9th for hershey park.
Posted By: Korfu Re: Local meet mid-July - 07/01/04 04:52 AM
Ok yeah so i have the days off work both the 17th and 18th so Im ready for them days. Quick question tho, if we are going to have this meet the 17th and 18th(?), are we responsible for finding our own places to sleep, or can we camp at that place where teh Frolf (Frisbee-golf) event will be taking place. Just thought i would ask.
Posted By: Buddy Palumbo Re: Local meet mid-July - 07/01/04 12:11 PM
I'm planing on it being just a one day meet-greet-eat-shoot the sheet , either saturday or sunday . There are campsites at French Creek if you'd like to turn your adventure into a combo camping vaca & Contour meet , Just follow the link above & it should have the info you need .

I'll grab a pack of Coke (for the caffeine freaks) and a pack of Canada Dry (for those who are just high on life).

I will need someone to donate ice and cooler space.

Breaker 1-9, breaker 1-9, be on the lookout for a CEGer driving a (WHAT!?!?!) blue Isuzu to the meet.

If someone wants to , they can bring something like pasta salad , potato salad / macaroni salad , desserts , or whatever . We've got enough people coming , if everyone brings something we'll be set for a great picnic !

Can't wait to see ya'll again ! Don't forget ... it's BYOF (bring your own frisbee) . They don't supply 'em ! It's FREE , after all .

Posted By: Buddy Palumbo Re: French Creek meet - July 18 - 07/13/04 12:55 PM
Great , Bmonje !

I'm going to try to remember the cooler & some ice too .

I scanned a map of the park , so you guys could see where you're going once you get into the park . I wanted to get down there ahead of time & get some "real" directions & distances , but since I moved , it's not exactly around the corner for me (not like it was before either , but ...) , so I did the next best thing & scanned a bit of my map (once I found it ) .

The maps are in my FRENCH CREEK folder . I just uploaded them , so it might take a couple minutes to catch up .
The "plain" map should be HERE
and the "edited" map should be HERE
You can save 'em & print 'em out so you're not lost . Basicly , once you get into the park (from either the east or west entrance) you're on PARK ROAD . Follow that till you get to the PARK OFFICE . There's an intersection at the office , TURN THERE . If the office is on your left , turn left . If the office is on your right , turn right . Once you're on that road , take the 2nd LEFT , into the parking area (the 1st left is into a playground area) . Hopefully I'll be there already . If I'm not , park on your right once you get into the lot . It's usually not that packed up there . If you follow it down & around to the next section of that lot (closer to the picnic area) , we'll be among the "not-so-Contour-friendly" bunch . BACK INTO YOUR SPOT , as it will make for better picture taking .

There are 2 disc golf areas , so make sure you turn on the road by the Park Office , so you're at the correct one ! Look at the maps , it will make sense . It's not hard to find . I will try to get down there on saturday for a dry run to check the directions . IIRC , it's just as I described . If you can , check back here saturday evening in case there's an update .

Hey hey, i wiggled out of work earlie. I should be able....haha able.....to stop out sometime about 1-2 ish. Allen I send you a PM with my celly. Cal me if you want me to bring anything. I have to be honest, i dont feel like reading through all these posts trying to figure out what to bring. Id prolly be eating at work reguardless before i head out anyway.

On a seperate note, Allen, I saw your brothers car the other day, driving through wernersville. Thats really nice, I like I like!
Posted By: Buddy Palumbo Re: French Creek meet - July 18 - 07/15/04 12:09 PM
Well good to see I might finally meet the Cain-meister .

Just to put this out there :
Since we're having so much rain lately & picnicing & frisbee golf would suck in the rain ... How about a RAIN DATE ??

I will be on vacation till the 1st of August , so I'm gonna just throw out there that the rain date will be AUGUST 8th . How's that ?? I'll be watching the weather & hopefully it'll go off as planned . But if it doesn't , at least we've got a backup plan .

Does everyone have their FRISBEE ?? If not , get your butt to K-Mart (or whereever) & buy one ! It doesn't have to be a "disc golf-legal" size/weight , just so you have one . Mine are just big-ole "normal" frisbees and I haven't thrown one since last year , so don't think I'm any darn good at it !

Yep, Alice Cooper will be there.
To me, it's not worth fighting the massive crowds to hear him.

I'm hearing now just a chance of showers for Sunday. So, hopefully all will go off without a hitch.

Ok me and Monstour are leaving in the morning (7ish or earlier to meet up about on time.) So we will have to know most likely tonight if we are on for the meet. If not some one is going to have to get up at like 6:30 tomorrow to comfirm it.

Cant wait for my first CEG meet. Cya tomorrow

Doesn't look good ...

Ahh!!! It rained at Carisle, that didn't stop us!! Who cares if it rains....

Is there a meeting time & spot for us Lehigh Valley people to meet up and drive down? I think Steve maybe coming too...
Posted By: Buddy Palumbo Re: French Creek meet - July 18 - 07/17/04 09:36 PM
I made the trip to French Creek today to scope it out . It was so nice today , my brother & I even played a round of frisbee golf while we were there . There was a guy there selling discs (don't call 'em frisbees ) , I believe he's with the local Disc Golf Association . He said he'll be there tomorrow as well . The discs are $8 - $14 from him , and are far & away better than MY discs .
I don't know which way everyone's coming to the Park , but I can say from rte. 422 , take rte. 82 south (into Birdsboro) to rte. 345 south to the Park . They just paved rte. 345 in the park , so it's a pretty nice ride now .
The directions I gave for INSIDE the park are still good to go ! You'll be on Park Road for a bit till you see the park office (you can't miss it) , that's my only addition to those directions .

Keep your eyes peeled here for any updates to the meet due to the weather ! I'll feel really bad if the N.Y. guys drive all the way down just to be sitting in the rain .

Rain hasent ever bothered me. Ill just bring a change of clothes, dry ones for the ride home. So even if it does rain im still game if everyone else is. Rain just means my car wont be as clean as i would like it but not a biggy.

If it's raining, I'm out. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see what happens.. If not, I'm up for the rain date.
Posted By: Korfu Re: French Creek meet - July 18 - 07/17/04 11:47 PM
Guys lets decide tonight about whats going on.
Posted By: Xoom_dup1 Re: French Creek meet - July 18 - 07/17/04 11:52 PM
The girlfriend and I should make it down anywhere from 12:30-1:30 depending on how lost we get. Can I get someones cell # in case that does happen and so someone can have mine in case we dont all get tickets to the big rain event.

Brian

EDIT

By the way, should I bring some kind of dessert? how many people are we expecting? need to be sugar free or anything special?
Posted By: Buddy Palumbo Re: French Creek meet - July 18 - 07/18/04 02:08 AM
Hmmm ... tough decision here .

Everywhere I've looked/heard today is saying rain tomorrow . As much as I hate to even suggest it , I think maybe we ought to go with the rain date & bag it for tomorrow .

There are no covered picnic table areas (that I've ever seen) & that would mean standing in the rain , cooking in the rain , shooting the s**t in the rain , frisbee golf in the rain ... you get the idea . I really don't want our long distance peeps to have to endure that crap . I , for one , think we ought to wait & do the meet in a few weeks .

Let me know what you guys are thinking ... ASAP ! This IS a group thing , after all .
Posted By: LUCA_dup1 Re: French Creek meet - July 18 - 07/18/04 02:09 AM
Brian(Xoom), check your PM's, I sent you my cell number.

Umm, I just checked weather.com and there is a flood watch posted for Elverson. One to three inches of rain are expected.

I'm up for waiting til the 8th!! I think everyone would be more comfortable chatting, playing frisbee golf, etc. if it was nice out.

Raining here , it is ...

Hmmm , Cains girlie all wet ...

August is it then . It's all good . Like Christine said , it'd be a much more enjoyable meet if it's nice outside . You know what they say , "hindsight is always 20/20" , but yesterday would've been the perfect meet day . Hopefully the 8th will be just as nice .

Ever seen a chickenhawk throw a frisbee ??
Posted By: Buddy Palumbo Re: French Creek meet - August ?th - 07/18/04 02:32 PM
I was just thinking (smell the smoke ?) , after talking to the disc golf guy yesterday , I'm wondering if we'd be better off doing the meet on a SATURDAY due to the fact that they have tournaments (or whatever they call 'em) on wednesdays & sundays . He said the last tee-off on sundays is 12:30 , so potentially , we could still be OK with sunday as long as we eat & stuff BEFORE we plan to play our frisbee golf . Really , it's a PUBLIC course & we could just play whenever we see fit , but the courses are biult & maintained by THEM so we should let them play their rounds (?) , I guess . Still , saturdays are usually pretty free & open and the lot is usually pretty empty (I don't know how many people are at these disc golf tournaments) .

Food for thought ... what's everyone think ?? August 7th , or August 8th ??

Congratulations!! I wish you the best!

I'm still trying to see if we can make it on the 7th. So far it's not looking promising. Right now the 8th is still better for us.
I'll see what I can do and let you know.

I guess Saturday would be OK too.
I'll still have to leave early, probably around 4.

Uh, I can't make it on the 7th or 8th. Plans came up.

Nor the next weekend - I'll be in White Cloud, MI.

Have fun - good thing I bought a disc.
Just tell me a date and i'll drop everything to be there
Posted By: Monstour Re: French Creek meet - August ?th - 08/03/04 01:51 AM
I'm good for either date, so lets make it official
Posted By: Buddy Palumbo Re: French Creek meet - August 7th ? - 08/03/04 12:00 PM
I say that we do it on SATURDAY THE 7th , so we can avoid any confusion from the disc-golf club's tournaments that are held on sundays . That way we pretty much have the course to ourselves . Let's start the meet at 12:00 NOON , to give Christine an extra 1/2 hour with us at the meet .

Is that cool with everyone ? If it's too tough for people to make saturday , we'll just do it sunday & deal with the "regular" disc-golfers , I guess . I've only ever been there on a saturday & it's like a ghost town . Really nice for a meet . I have NO idea what to expect on a sunday . I will be there whichever day we decide to do it . I will change my schedule to suit whatever , I want this meet to happen .

Let's get a head-count going right away so we know who's coming & what they're bringing .
  • Y2KMondeoSVT (hotdogs-rolls-plasticware-charcoal/fluid)
  • LancasterTour (whatcha bringin' ?)
  • MonsTour(?) (2-liter sodas)
  • LUCA(?) (burgers-buns-plates-napkins)
  • WHO'S NEXT ??
Posted By: LUCA_dup1 Re: French Creek meet - August 7th ? - 08/03/04 12:37 PM
Noon on the 7th then. Thanks for the extra half hour!!

For a headcount: Ken is coming with me.

Bringing burgers, rolls, napkins and plates.

Won't be able to make it on the 7th, already have plans.. Maybe next time.
Posted By: Checker'd SVT Re: French Creek meet - August 7th ? - 08/04/04 11:06 PM
I'll be there, with Candy & Madison. I can packup the grill again if needed. Is there anything needed that I can bring???

Is Sunday better for you?
Sat works well, I wanted to go to the beach on sunday. And as for what I am bringing, what is missing?
Posted By: Buddy Palumbo Re: French Creek meet - August 7th - 08/05/04 12:21 PM
OK here's the list as I see it so far , this time around ...

  • Y2KMondeoSVT (+guest) -hotdogs,rolls,plasticware,charcoal/fluid

  • LUCA (+guest) -burgers,buns,plates,napkins

  • Monstour -2-liter sodas

  • LancasterTour - ???

  • Checker'd SVT (+guest & Madison ) - ???

IS THIS ALL ?? ARE WE MISSING ANYBODY ??? SPEAK UP IF YOU'RE COMING !!!!!!

Boy , that rain out really kicked the crap out of our attendence , didn't it ?!?! I remember a few years back , I could get 15-20 local cars to a meet , at short notice , in the parking lot of a restaurant , just for a BS session & some lunch . Now , with months notice & planning we can only get 5 cars together for a local meet ?? And this could be a cool meet , too ...
Don't get me wrong , it's all good . I'll be there even if there's just 2 cars there . But then again , I'm not 5 hours away either . Just feeling bad ...

As I see it , as far as the food goes , we still need stuff to go along with the burgers & dogs , like chips , potato/macaroni salads ... stuff like that .

C'Mon people ... saturday's supposed to be a beautiful day !! Take advantage of it & hang out with your CEG friends . You won't regret it .
I'll pick up some chips and pretzels of different types.

Not really.. It's a shame, as Allen said, it's supposed to be a really nice weekend too..

Sorry guys and girl but i cant make it on either date. Only having a job for another weeek after this one is really going to make my money situation really tight so i cant afford not to go to work or drive down to PA. I can barely afford to put gas in my car.... Next time for sure, my school is 2 hours closer to PA.

Good luck and i wish i was going!

As far as food is concerned, ill bring something. I think I have some left-over grub at work yet.....maby fruit salad...some cake maby, ill see whats there and post back tomarrow.

Yo'...can we have a contest......Cleanest...and dirtiest car? I havent won something in a while and i know ill take all the competition out with my ride....DONT THINK for a second its the clean trophy i want.

See ya'll later on saturday.....

....yeah yeah...Allen, I wanted to mention something to you. Tell your brother next time i aint getting behind old people on the highway. I wont be so nice....hahahah

I was looking at this trip as an opportunity to get away from evryone and now that Bmonje isn't going, i'm not sure if i wanna make the trip alone or with my girl and baby, especially if its only gonna be like 6 cars there. I have to think about it.

Cartman, Bmonje and Jason...I'm sorry that you guys can't make it.

Andre, I hope that you decide to come down, but understand if you don't. Even with the small turn out it'll still be a great time. You still have my cell #??

Xoom, where are you?

Here's the updated list :

  • Y2KMondeoSVT (+guest) -hotdogs,rolls,plasticware,charcoal/fluid

  • LUCA (+guest) -burgers,buns,plates,napkins

  • Monstour -2-liter sodas

  • LancasterTour - chips & pretzels

  • Checker'd SVT (+guest & Madison ) - macaroni & potato salad

  • MyCainsBroken - sumpin' lying around somewhere , I'm sure

Does everyone have their FRISBEE warmed up ?? It's gonna be a hoot !!

Monstour - I don't blame you for not wanting to make the 5+ hour ride alone for such a small meet . Don't feel bad , we'll have a larger meet soon (hopefully) .

MyCainsBroken - How 'bout bringing some drinks along with you if Monstour doesn't come ??
You're gonna have to pedal pretty hard to beat my bro's Scooby ... it's no slouch . It'd be a good run , that's for sure !

Posted By: MyCaiNsBroK3N Re: French Creek meet - August 7th ? - 08/07/04 07:57 PM
So im on my way to work today......7:15 am, i found out today and officially proclaimed myself NOT A MORNING PERSON! Another thing......i think i know why my car was running like poo latly. So on my way home last night i notice a very dim red light coming from the dash, sure enough....battery light. Lights dim a bit, seems even more sluggish the more i drive. I knew last night this was going to happen, and for some reason or another i was unable to log into CEg last night to let you know i couldnt make it. I tried calling Chris and Allen with no avail. So after my ABS light, Check Engine, and Battery light all come on, my tachometer starts going NUTZ! Water temp gauge stayed right at the "N" on Normal. Car starts to run very unsmoothly, i could feel its about to die. So pull over and no sooner it dies in a parking lot....Lowes of all places, i hate Jimmie Johnson......but thats another story. So i knew someone with a toe truck, just coudnt get ahold of him this earlie in the morning. trying to save a few bucks (cause towing sure isnt cheap) so i wait (calling off work and hearing my boss that earlie bitchin isnt cool either, but who cares) around 11 (after three hours waiting, i did have breakfast a subway which SUCKED!) finally get ahold of him. His truck isnt running right. Call all around, finally found someone semi-close. 75 beans to come out to me and $1 per-mile. Needless to say i spend 100 bucks alone with the towing. 3.50 for breakfast and 170 on the new alternator. So here i am fixing my car on the weekend, no beer, no brownies just some grease for dinner. So now im in Lebanon area at my friends house, but of corse he's away in the Poconos. So hey when you guys get back, if you want to gimmie a hand, come over and knock yourself out. Sorry for not showing up again, this stuff always happens when i have plans. Hope ya'll had fun. I sure did

So thats where you were. We were all wondering what happened to ya.
Posted By: LUCA_dup1 Re: French Creek meet - August 7th ? - 08/07/04 10:54 PM
Sorry to hear about your car. We were wondering where you where.

You try to call my cell?? I didn't have any missed calls.

You missed the frisbee golf. It was sooo fun! Poor Candy fell in a puddle with her sandals on. Doug's disk was lost for about 15-20 mintutes, it was hidden in some brush.

I hope you get your car up and running soon!!
Posted By: MyCaiNsBroK3N Re: French Creek meet - August 7th ? - 08/07/04 11:08 PM
eh....im in the middle of trying to get the old one off. What a PITA!! If anyone has done this before

Check your PMs.

Good-ole Spitlers towing Cain in . Sorry you couldn't make it , I was looking forward to meeting you (for some reason or another ) . Did you get the alternator fixed ??

I just walked in the door a little while ago . I stopped and had a couple Coronas & a nip of scotch with my friend who tagged along today ... I'll feel that in the morning . I'm going to start uploading the pics to my Webshots page in a few minutes , so stay tuned . I got sidetracked as we were heading back to the cars , I wanted to take a shot of the cars in the lot . My long distance shot turned out blurry .
I had a great time today , and I want to give a big THANKS to all who showed up and made today memorable . I hope we can do the frisbee golf thing again . Maybe next time I'll even play ! I'm glad Ken decided to play , I think he had fun . It was worth sitting out the game so he could play . Maybe next time Christine's shoulder/arm will be doing better so she can show us how it's done !
I wrote down some scores at the end of it all , and here goes :
  • Candy - 144
  • Ken - 89
  • Brian - about 1,000 (his words , not mine )
  • Madison - 34 (that's about all I counted her throwing , but she was a HOOT )
  • MaryJane - 119
  • Aaron - 93

What was DOUG's score ?? Did the fancy HAT work ??

Let's do it again soon !!
Posted By: MyCaiNsBroK3N Re: French Creek meet - August 7th ? - 08/08/04 01:51 AM
No....not yet, so damn unmotivated. Reguardless, its getting done tomarrow.

MaryJane?
Posted By: LUCA_dup1 Re: French Creek meet - August 7th ? - 08/08/04 02:24 AM
Doug also had an 89.

No, not the MaryJane you're thinking of ...MaryJane is Allen's wife's name!

I had a great time so did Ken! I wish more people could have come out with us.

Yeah, maybe next time I can play. I did have fun watching though.

We should start planning the next meet soon. With plenty of notice we should be able to get everyone together for the next one.
Posted By: Buddy Palumbo Re: French Creek meet - August 7th ? - 08/09/04 01:51 AM
OK guys , here are my pics from the French Creek meet . As usual , I had some problems uploading the pics (I'd upload some fine , then it'd just sit there locked up) . Maybe it's time for me to check into newer Webshots software . At least I got it done !

Man I wish i could have made it but im kinda glad i didnt. I got out of work friday night at 11:30 then had to go back at 6:30am and when i got there felt fine. After about 2 hours i just started feeling like [censored] and went to the bathrooms and began to vomit, I'll save you the details but i get sent home early and spent the rest of the day sleeping.

Next time im so there guys, I will be 2 hours closer the PA next week due to school so we need to make meets happen more often.

Peace
