Well, I splurged a bit this month and picked up a new tool of the week:

The wife has been throwing check engine lights here and there with her Jeep and I have had two in the MSM so I decided to bite the bullet and pick up a scan tool.

Ever car should come with one of these things as part of a service package.

its a great tool to have if you do your own work, can you review data real time with it?

Yeah, some of it. IAT is one of the readings I'm interested in.

Why bother with an external scan tool and a CE light? Just have the car tell you what the problem is. It's nearly 2007 people.

Well, after a day or so with this thing, I wonder if I could do better. I'm happy with the information this one provides but I might return this and get a PC based program like Autotap. The sales pitch for the Actron system was that you could update it online. Apparently you can update the codes on your PC and cross referance it with the codes that are found in the scanner (if there is no description in the scanner).

I thought you bought a Thinkpad last year? Use a cable with that.... that's what I plan in the future.
