As long as it it doesn't rain, July 30th is a go on the meet.
I will be hosting at the house, only down side could be parking around here, but I'm sure something can be worked out. Noonish should be fine.
Location is Newport RI.
I want to check to see what people like too eat. Grilling over hot coals, I was thinking chicken, or steak tips, maybe even some slow rosted ribs. Can cover most the food. I like doing corn on the cob in the husk on the grill if you like cob corn. Rosted potato, sweet potato maybe.. Or even the classic burgers and dogs, brats n beer slow cooked.
I'm sure some will back out at the last min (I'm guilty of doing it myself) Traffic can be a PITA.

I think we are free that weekend! Never been to Neport. We are out of town the two weekends prior though. Hopefully not too much house stuff builds up. I'll be more definite when we get a little closer.
How can you guys live in New England and never have seen any of the Gilded Age mansions?
I'm guilty of never leaving the six states, but inside them I guess I've seen a lot! Helps to have family nearby I suppose.

As the date grows I will have an offical time. I'm thinking will have to work 6am-10am and should be back by 11am so 12-1pm for the start of the meet.
Maybe do a tour of newport, walking or driving. Cliff walk is a nice thing to check out, and ocean drive. Then eat around 4ish. Or maybe even some mods, if someone needs help I have just about everything for working on a tour, and the airtools speed things up.

I've been reading up on it and finagling a few things.
#1 - Determined a paint scheme: Body panels, tank & wheels will be Metallic Charcoal. Frame will be Anthracite. Not going to paint the frame until winter when I tear the whole bike down again.
- Painted the wheels. Going to clear coat them tonight.
- Ordered the POR15 tank refurb kit and a bunch of other parts.
- Removed the other fork and began assembling tools to dismantle forks. Need SAE15 fork oil and have no idea where to get it!
- Started cleaning chain and cogs with moly cleaner/grease.
Will begin reassembly of rear wheel this week with reassembly of front end once the fork oil is located.
Also want to take exhaust off, scrape surface rust, and paint with hi-temp black.
Will attach tank once cleaned and painted.
Then, vroom vrooom.
i had a bottle of fork oil, but my buddy took it as a storage fee.
you should be able to get the oil at north reading honda kawasaki. freddy usually has everything there.
that junk yard/garage place i told you about is off of exit 37 off 495. going towards billerica.
i know Fred in North Reading. almost bought a helmet from him, but found it cheaper in NH.
i'll check the junkyard place too for the brakes. i emailed my brake buy in Lowell but he only does car and truck rotors, not bikes. oh well...
sanded the rough spots on the tank tonight and re-primed. got my POR15 in the mail! that's going in tomorrow night. sanded and primed the front fender. cleared the rear wheel so it's ready to mount. put a 2nd coat of paint on the front wheel, gets cleared tomorrow. getting there....

tank is coated, wheels are painted and cleared, gear and chain are oiled and ready to be installed, side fairings primed.
the onlt thing left is the front forks.
but they are a PAIN!!!!
painting is almost done. tank is sealed. forks are in!
Also, went to MotoXtreme in Wakefield and was dissapointed to not see the wet t-shirt contest that was promised on craigslist. cool shop, tho. and they had my fork oil.

you should have everything to put the wheels on, the forks on, the tank and seat on, and even the new choke cable.
the bike was a roller when i first got it.
so if you cant get it back tot hat point, then i have the parts somewhere.

i need the bumpers that get placed under the tank to support it on the frame and keep it from rattling. i only have one of 4 or 5 that are needed.
need a chain guard
also need the chain adjusters, one for each side of the swing arm. can't install the rear wheel without these.
lastly, did you say you installed the guage cluster or did the PO? i'm looking at the diagrams and the pictures and the SOB looks upside-down to me. if not, then i'm missing the rear "cups" for that too.
all else looks good! front wheel is on. i scratched up the rim again putting it on, poo on me. the rear wheel is assembled and partially installed. will finish once i get chain adjusters.

the only reason why I'm hesitant is becuase the car shakes very badly at 70 but at 75-80 is smooth as silk..
you shouldnt need an alignment after replacing an axle.
the ball joints on these cars has no effect on the alignment.
as for the tie rod, if it has to be disconnected from the spindle (which isnt always needed) you aren't changing its position.
the only worries you should have is the fact that you cant drive 70.

I would think so, we changed the control arms on my fathers car and we set the toe and it has been pretty good, his tire wear is alittle off but the car hasn't been professionally aligned in some time

well I can't see more then one maybe two people being able to get in there and work on it, but I don't see why it would take longer then an hour or so, but then again I have never replaced an axle, getting the hub out of the way isn't to dificult ...
if things go smoothly, it could be replaced in 30 minutes.

The only problem I ever have (and maybe because it was a 4 bolt type arm) is getting that arm down enough to get it back into the knuckle. IIRC you do have to pop the ball and the tie, the press the axle out the hub.
i got my csvt working, shes good to go. i got the day off so me and my girl should be able to meet up.. any CT people want to meet up and cruz up there together, let's figure someplace out to meet...
also, umm.. directions would be cool. im all set with getting to the jamestown bridge and all, just need to know where to go after that.

a cool trick for lowering the LCA enough to get the ball joint in:
take a short piece of chain, at least 18", wrap it around the LCA connect the ends with a nut and bolt.
then take a long piece of pipe, feed it through the chain under the LCA and rest the end under the subframe.
now you have a long lever that pulls down on the LCA.
i did my drivers side axle with brand new 4-bolt LCAs and got it down far enough just using a prybar.
don't forget to loosen the pinch bolt and slide the hub up on the strut, that will create extra clearence to get the ball joint apart

for CT people, Looks like Mystic will be a good meeting place, Newport is about an 1 and 15 minutes from there so lets tentitivel say meet in Mystic at 11:45, it looks like it will take everyone about an hour, 15 to 30 to get to mystic from monroe, plainville, and stafford springs ...

If anyone has extra chairs that will help alot and if you like to bring chips to snack on (I plan to grab some too) that would be awesome as well.
If people could maybe car pool down that will help with parking. If it comes down to it, there is public parking down by the water front, which is a hop, skip, and a jump away from the house. I never hear of anything happening to cars down there (I plan on moving mine down there), it's a pretty good area.

Print Screen basically copies it to the Clipboard.
Go to Start->Accessories->Paint and hit Edit->Paste. Edit as necessary and then save the file somewhere (as file type JPG). Then upload it to an imaging website of course
If you run Windows, that is. Mac OS X the command is apple-shift-3, which automatically saves it to your Desktop as a .PNG file (which you can open in Preview and save as JPG).

People coming over the bridge. There is a 2 dollar toll at the newport bridge. First I should say the first bridge you go over on 138east is jamestown bridge. You go straight. Just follow the road taking no exits. Then you will come upon the tolls for the newport bridge, make your way to the right hand cashlane and be careful! There is alot of jerks. Go over the bridge take your first exit on the right also use caution here, people could be stopped on the exit, and if you whip the turn smack!
This is going to put you at a stop sign, take a right, follow the road straight(you will be passing graveyards on the left and right) take the right at the second set of lights. There will be rail road tracks on the right, just flow with traffic (which will be slow) in the rightlane. Your going to hit 6 lights, number 5 and 6 is in a turn (not and optional turn the road turns) left, number 6 you hook the right. There will be a big building on your right as you hit this turn. This puts you on lower thames and is a one lane one way, slow moving road. Drive down you will notice lots of odd shops and eats on left and right. You will (after about a mile maybe alittle more) see a Shell gas station on the left, red brick building on the right, keep going after you pass the red brick building there is 3 more buildings/house and the turn to my street which has billboards at the top of it. Righthand turn. House is on the left.
People coming onto 24s, go all the way till the highway ends, it will put you onto 114. Drive all the way down 114. You'll know when your getting closer to newport, you will note a Stop and shop on the right, car dealers (one is a ford place) after passing the ford dealer get in the rightlane. Take a right at the lights (there is one set flashing you don't want that one). Your going to go straight threw the 1st light, as you go down the road it will open into 2 lanes. Pick the left lane, straight threw the 2nd light, and get over to the left to turn at the 3rd light (left turn) after takeing the turn, you want the first left.

I want to test the pressure again tomrrow to see how it's holding out. Sometimes it feels like the A/C is a little warm, but could just be my imagination. Afterall, the only times I noticed it was warm, was on a really hot day, when the sun was strong. So it was taking long to cool down.

my AC doesnt work well at say standstill traffic, however when i get going and am cruising at a pace, it cools just fine

problem being the gages are in Monroe and I am in Enfield ... but Tony I have your gage and some R-134A left over. iirc JD2-98s did a video on ac rechargind, maybe he has some gages
but on that note, the mystique a/c is cold but it also doesn't feel as cold as it did when i first got it working, but it could be the heat, or we might have over filled it for the temp, not sure, but to little or to much coolant will make the system not work right
This is kinda last minute but,
If you guys are looking for a more scenic drive than all highway, take this:
290 -> 395 to CT
get off at Route 44 in Putnam CT, head east to Rt 102 in Glocester RI
then take Rt 102 all the way into Kingston/Newport.
(From there take 1A to 138 which will get you over the bridge to Newport.)
We go this way all the time when we visit our family in N. Kingstown, it's only about a 10 minute difference from my house (if you drive the speed limit on the highway) and so much more peaceful than driving all highway.

So on the way back up on Route 24N, I think I killed a bird. I set the cruise control and was just moseying along, kinda saw something flying across low in front of my car, felt a "thump" under my right front tire, looked in the mirror and saw a bunch of feathers flying around.
Just got home.

I saw that, but I wasn't sure what it was. It might have been a Maserati, but for some reason it didn't quite look like that. I would know if I saw the logo for the make of the car.
i thought it mightve been a jag from a distance but when i got closer i knew it wasnt..thought i saw the M on front-but i could be mistaken there as well..... theres also the Coupe and Spider versions that have a little different look to em, that white one is just the first one i saw on google.

I saw that, but I wasn't sure what it was. It might have been a Maserati, but for some reason it didn't quite look like that. I would know if I saw the logo for the make of the car.

It was an aston martin. Two passed us actually.
my friend has a maserati, yes a kid my age. he owns a used car dealership given to him by his father.

Is now a good time to fully regret not being able to go to the meet?? Any chance there will another meet this year?? P.S. my daughter has a delivery date of Sept. 12. Any talk of ever doing a meet up by Salisbury Ma. and going thru the beaches and than MAYBE ending up at TEN'S gentleman and ladies club???
there will be the fall meet in october some time, anything before then I don't know, we use to do Fun Ford Weekend but not anymore, anyone want to host a end of summer meet?

I'd actually like to host a meet. Not like last years, which turned out to be just a nightmare. That turned out to be a horrible week for me.

OMG Im sooooo sorry!! when i was testing out Tony's ballasts, i messed up the aim and it was completely outa whack! I felt bad which is why i made everyone pull over so I could fix it

Big park right around the corner from me. Walking distance about 5 mins.
Tons of space for pictures.
We could actually just have the meet there because they have outdoor grilling. Swimming pool, basketball court, swings, etc.
I was kinda thinking of going to New England Dragway for the Tasca Ford Show.

I'm not sure what the cost is, but I'll call and find out. I really miss doing Fun Ford Weekend, but that's too expensive now. IIRC, the Tasca Show is far less expensive than FFW.

Same with the fall meet. If you've got a cool idea for a cruise with scenic stops and great food, post up a thread.
It's never too soon to start planning.
I just called over to NED and I think I woke the guy up! Anyway, he said its $15 to show and $27 to race. And $10 for adult spectators, I forget what he said the kids price was but I want to say $7.

Man, I do miss the SVT.
I've wanted to have a meet ever since we bought the house(2 years ago), but the driveway only fits 4. There is plenty on on street parking with minimal traffic though. We have thrown a party or two where cars have lined the street! Our neighbors must love us!

My wife and I just had our 2nd Baby Boy on the 24th, so there was no way to get out there!!
However, we are going out to Newport for Tuesday and wednesday, but we are taking the Elantra, cause I just pulled the motor out of the CSVT, and will be putting another one in in about 3-4 weeks, just need a clutch!!

Well, on the way home from Newport there was a plastic bag floating around the highway and of course it blew right in front of me forcing me to go over it. I didn't see it come out in my rear view, but I forgot about it when I got home. I found it this morning melted to my passenger side exhaust tip! It wasn't on the polished tip at all, it was crammed in the lip on the backside of the tip (those with Borla know what I mean). Lucky, I was able to peel it off!! HAHAH!
