Posted By: GTO Pete Sat 9/27 Fall Cruise & BBQ - updated 9/24 - 09/08/03 07:26 PM
Date: Saturday, September 27th
Time: 10:00 a.m.?
Meet at:
Bull Run Plaza Shopping Center
10864 Sudley Manor Drive
Manassas, VA 22110

Address confirmed!!!

The Plan
~ Meet at Bull Run Plaza Shopping Center
~ Couple people run perishables over to kokopelian's house
~ Cruise and check the scenery & Cooter's Garage (free parking & admittance)
~ Bull Run Park (weather permitting) for BBQ, football, frisbee, baseball, RC cars, etc.
~ For those who want to stick around afterwards, perhaps hit a restauraunt for dinner?

I think the conscensus is mostly "don't care as long as we all get together"...
IMHO, Cooter's seems more logical since:
1. several CEGers making pretty long hauls (North Carolina, eastern MD) and a shorter cruise then a BBQ might be better.
2. Making it one more "summer" event and enjoying the weather instead of sitting in a restauraunt where people at opposite ends of the table hardly get to talk to each other!

Roll Call

Good call.

Everything sounds good to me. If any of you southern VA, or even NC folks want to cruise with us Richmond folks over, just let us know. So far 3 Tours rolling from Richmond.
Bill Check the list! Does that work for you!

Pro why not bring 20 hot dogs and 20 buns? 40 buns doesn't do us a whole lot!

-Andy
i thought i read someone was bringing hotdogs so i figured id bring the buns, i can do that too doesn't bother me.
Andy: yeah, that sounds fine

Has anyone considered how we're gonig? Here's a route that the guys at NASIOC took when they went a while ago. That starts out in Woodbridge but we can move the meeting place to whereever. I haven't driven this route so I have no idea if it's good or not. It's definitely not the shortest way but I heard it was a fun drive.

Quote:

OK...here's the tentative route. I might change the gravel section, but that depends on how many people want to avoid it. It's actually pretty smooth, just gravel. I drove it with my 18's no problem. Only thing is, your car gets dirty.

  • Meet at the Old Hechingers commuter lot on the corner of Route 123 and Old Bridge road in Woodbridge, VA. This is right off the 123 exit, (exit 160B) towards Occoquan, on 95.
  • Leave the North exit of the lot (the one with the light) and make a right onto Old Bridge Road
  • Left at light onto 123 North.
  • Left onto Hampton Rd. There will be signs for Fountain Head Park.
  • Left Onto Henderson.
  • Right to continue on Henderson.
  • Another right to continue onto Henderson. This intersection will be at the top of a hill.
  • Left onto Clifton.
  • Right onto Main St. (645).
  • Left to continue on Clifton (645).
  • Left onto Compton. There isn't much warning for this left, so watch for it (658).
  • Right to continue on Compton (658). Union Mill will be the left, but make the right to continue on Compton.
  • Cross over Centreville, Route 28, and right after, make a right to continue on Compton (658).
  • Make a sharp right onto Bull Run, no stop.
  • Pass over 29 and continue onto Bull Run Post Office.
  • Road turns to gravel, and continues for ~3 miles. This can be avoided if everyone wants, but I'll need to change the route a bit. Let me know.
  • Left onto Braddock. (still gravel)
  • Right onto Elk Lick. (off gravel)
  • Right onto Edgewater.
  • Left onto Poland.
  • We'll make a stop at the Sheetz for fuel, food, and cleaning the dust off the cars.
  • Take 50 West all the way through Middleburg. ~11 miles.
  • Right outside Middleburg 50 becomes 2 lanes again, and shortly after make a left onto Zulla (709).
  • Right onto John Marshall (55).
  • Left onto Free State, and over 66.
  • Right after you pass the 66 exits, right onto Center Hill (this is a FUN road).
  • Left onto Zachary Taylor (522).
  • Right onto Fodderstock (641).
  • Right onto 211 and on to Cooters!

Andy, I can't update the original post since I don't have that kind of "power".
Pete,
Post below and I'll modify the original! Or come on IM!

I can't give that Power!

-Andy
Just giving you a hard time, Bang Bus.
Put Susie and I down for hotdogs and chips. Any special requests for chips?

--Matt
Sour cream and onion chips ?
Yeah, key me in for the storage of the food and I'll bring some hamburgers and buns. My house is right down the street from Bull Run park. Also, I think we should all meet up at Bull Run Shopping Center. It's an easy landmark to find and there's a huge parking lot. We can get a group pic before the ride out. Also, there is a 24 hour Grocery Store there so we can pick up more grub if we need it.
Didn't find much under Sperryville, but I did find some hotels in Warrenton . (click the Warrenton hotels link under the search area, be advised it also lists hotels in Manassas which is much further away) Doesn't look too far away from Sperryville, but the VA guys can probably give you a better idea if there's anything closer.
ccol thanks,if i get to go i would be rolling threw richmond so id like to meet up and follow you guys.

Sounds good. It's a 2.5 hour drive. So, I suppose that would put us at leavin' at 7:30am or so from Richmond. Do you know which route you would be taking to get here? I95 I would assume.
woo hoo. yeah warrenton is small. so best thing would be drive back wit richmonders and stay there (if you are comin from nc or somtn?)
yeah id be heading up i95 ,richmond is only 2 hours from my house, and i may be crashing somewhere in richmond so im not trying to sleep all day from getting up so early
yeah that's smart
Where are the Maryland guys meeting before you hit Kokopellian's house. Forgive if you guys posted it already. I am planning to come with my 1 year old. I probably won't stay long of course, but I still want to participate. I will post later what I can commit to bringing.
We have hotdogs, burgers, sausage, some soda, and chips!

We need some side dishes and probably some more beverages.

We also will need plates, napkins, forks, knives, and spoons.

I just saw that Bull Run has a Disc Golf Course! I'll be prepared like the geek I am.

-Andy

p.s. Ice!! and Coolers! I'll have one big cooler.
OMG PLEASE SOMEBODY BRING POTATO SALAD I BEG
I want some of Reggie's Mac and cheese!

REGGIEE!!!

I'll let tankgurl bring napkins in addition to utensils.

I'll bring the big cooler that I brought to the All Ford Nationals this year.
A 2nd cooler wouldn't be a bad idea.

I'll also bring my discs just in case.
someone pleeeeease bring a footballll i want to show all these OLD people how to play, hahaha.
Sorry Pete! Brain Fart!

I've got a hutch like mini football!

-Andy

And Eric's carrot cake which he wont share the recipe to!
There's a very good chance that I'm going to be coming. Someone let me know what to bring and I'll see what I can do. I'll be caravanning with the Richmond peeps.
Pete, I planned on bringing my cooler. I also have a football. I'll bring that too...

--Matt
good good, regular size football i hope, if not mini is ok sorta...ehhhh haha oh well. i can't wait. i needa get my head outta school, my grades already suck
Hey guys was just looking through here and saw that you guys are heading to "cooters place". Just wanted to say we were down there not to long ago for Dukefest and it was a great time. Wish I lived closer I would meet up with you guys and bring my General Lee and have some fun.

Have fun and tell cooter I said Howdy.

Josh
I'm in, but I won't be driving my SVT - I'll have the company Lincoln LS that weekend. Let me know if there's anything I should bring.
I'm in, too. Someone tell me what to bring.
Ok married guys! We could use some good side dishes!!!

"Over-the-Rainbow Macaroni and Cheese" is my request! I tried it a few times but never quite got it right. Maybe one of your wives has a knack for cooking!

Recipe:
http://abcnews.go.com/sections/GMA/GoodMorningAmerica/recipes/recipe990429_macandcheese.html

-Andy
It will be just me and my dog, and she won't eat much. Hubby is working that weekend. I will also volunteer to bring the plates. I'm already going to Costco to get the utensils and the napkins, so I'll pick up the plates too!
I'll bring a couple cases of soda. Anybody want anything special? What else can I bring that would be helpful? Can someone bring a cooler and ice for the soda, or should I try to supply one?

Richmond guys - get in touch with me and let me know for sure what time/place we're meeting!

Oh yah and I'll be bringing one person with me, most likely muh girl
Hey hey folks,

Sorry, the hurricane has knocked out just about everything over here at my house, and just got my phones back a few hours ago, but still don't have power.. well, we've got a generator

Anyway, for us richmond folks to get up there by 10, we've gotta leave by 7am. Everyone down with showin' up 'bout that time?

BuchSVT, I pm'ed you about 7:30, but when I saw/remembered it was starting at '10', I'm thinking more like 7 instead of later. Let me know what you think.

I saw there were some NC folks coming up as well. Do you need directions to the Short Pump, Richmond, walmart? If so, pm me and I'll gladdly help out. Since you'll probably be coming up from 95 anyway.

take 95 north and then when 64 splits off from 95 you take 64 west and take that all the way to the short pump exit. You'll take the second short pump exit and then you'll be heading down West Broad St. The walmart will be on your right (about 3 lights down). We plan on meeting in the back of the parking lot, near the wendy's. You shouldn't be able to miss us
WHAT 7 IN THE MORNING. wow...my gf is gonna be grummmmmpy. oh well. HAHA JEREMY THAT SUCKS! i got power back the next day around noon, hahahaha and water like a day after. but half the city still doesn't have power, all of the freeman district has no power what so ever
OK, this event is now looking a little iffy for me. I just found out last night that we have to remove all our stuff from our basement storage unit by tonight so they can start the drying process. I also have a guy picking up one of my couches sometime on Sat. (long story).

So I'm going to try to meet up with everyone in the morning and then will probably have to leave after Cooter's.

Haha, I know it sucks. We could always meet up with them later than 10.. but I was suggesting a time that would put us at getting there near 10. Wait...

I'm stupid , ok, 8am is when we'll leave. I don't know what I was thinking. Ok, must have been the lack of electricity. Anyway, yeah, I think that 8 is a good time to head out. We might not arrive right on 10, but pretty close to it. So, everyone want to meet up at Walmart at 745 to make sure everyone gets there by 8?

BTW, I'm coming solo (wife has plans) and I'll grab some bags of cookies on the way.
ooo thats a low blow 8 in the morning....christ jeremy. i hope my gf doesn't get a tude bout this
OK, unless I'm told I have 24 hours to move all my damp stuff out of its present location (like I was 2 days ago), I'm in. I'll bring some potato salad and macaroni salad.

I think we're pretty well covered with most stuff.
A side and a case of soda would be helpful!

Dammit! Okay, my fuel pump goes out TODAY!! I take it to the stealership and they can't fix it till next week! It's still under warranty at least, but I don't have my car for the cruise! WTF!? Well, I need to bum a ride off someone. I can't believe this. I've gotta sit BIATCH on the cruise! Grrrrr.. Anyway, everything else is a go. The food storage at my house etc. I will still meet you all at the Bull Run shopping center since I can walk there from my house. Thanks.
Posted By: mmars_dup1 Re: I need a ride for the cruise!! - 09/26/03 05:13 PM
That sucks man! If I weren't bringing the kids, you could ride in the Cobra....

PS. If anyone wants to include something in the box of goodies I'm sending to RT, bring it tomorrow and I'll throw it in...

Sorry I couldn't respond to your post, my phones went back out for some reason. So I'm at the library now. I'm not I thought if we showed up at 10 then that would include getting together and then cruisin' over to cooters and then on to the bbq. Those planners out there who know the plans, could you shed some light on what type of schedule we'll be on?

I thought we Richmonders would cruise to Bull Run Plaza where everyone else is meeting. From there everyone is driving over to cooters' and then on to Bull Run Park for the BBQ. I don't think that this cruise is going to be that long, not a like the original thoughts of the whole skyline drive cruise. So, as far as I know, there really isn't a cruise, just a meeting place with a big parking lot, then just caravan over to cooters and then to Bull Run from there. *shrug*

As for everyone leaving from Richmond, I think 8am is the magical time to leave Should be good if we can stay together, we'll get there just a little after 10.

My brother Jon, isn't coming once more.. he has football practice. But I'm bring my girl friend and another friend.

If my thoughts are correct we will have:
3 cars from Richmond..
BuchSVT
Proliphik
me (jeremySeVT)

(anyone else I left off please post a reply so we don't leave you by accident)

I haven't heard much from you NC folks.. so if you plan on attending, please let us know. My phones are out at the house so please don't pm me, just make a note here on this thread so that the other Richmond guys can see what you plan on doing.

I have some extra room, just don't sit on the chips!
Posted By: moxnix_dup1 Re: I need a ride for the cruise!! - 09/26/03 07:43 PM
This cruise must be bad luck for cars or something. My alternator went out on the way to work today and I had to get it towed to the shop and it may not be done until monday if they are not able to get started on it today.

I guess I will still be there but it will be in my GF's P5.

Any of the Maryland guys meeting up for the ride to Bull Run? Reply and I'll check later tonight or better yet PM me with a phone number or something!!!

Yes? You rang?

Oops, I missed it! And to think that it was only twenty-five minutes away from my hometown. Oh well, next time...and I'll be sure to bring the macaroni-and-cheese (seems as if I'm getting a reputation for it).

Heard ya missed me? Well, I'm back!

Welcome back, Reg!

Matt did his best to make up for it by making it - turned out pretty good, too!

Too bad you missed it - we'll have another one in the springtime!
